Directv promo

As a loyal customer i have received the loyalty promo but it is always a HUGE hassle every year to get it....this year they are only giving me $30 off. I have the most basic service use and don't even use the tv enough to warrant the bill which will now be nearly 50% higher than what I was paying. I was told a second promo could be applied but then I am told they can't see any more deals and have to literally check the account everyday if anything (ever) appears....has anyone here actually gotten a second promo applied to an account? I am about ready to cancel the service all together after each year such a hassle to say the least to keep the bill manageable....

I’ve never heard of getting a second promotion. You are lucky to get the one you are getting. The ATT CEO said no more loyalty promos last year, very few customers are getting anything.

AT&T's CEO  stated months ago there will be no more discounts for existing customers.

There is no specific "loyalty" promo. In the past there were many discounts available. After a financial review it was determined that it was hemorrhaging the business as customers got too much where they were at risk of operating at a loss (some apparently were).

So their CEO pulled back practically all discounts. Once this has stabled, and problem accounts have been addressed, it is expected that specials would return but in moderation. They are only ever intended to be temporary, not a permanent special. They are "only" giving you $30 off? That is actually a very nice discount and equals the cost of a programming package (Family $29.99) which is what they are trying to avoid.

In the future prepare to have the package that suits your viewing. If cost is too high for you, then reduce your package. Certainly enjoy discounts when they are there, but plan for full cost. They are a business and must turn a profit, not give away the service at cost or less. Regardless of what is "manageable" for you, the networks charge TV providers a lot of money to be carried. So customers are getting hit with the hard reality that service is not as cheap as they have mistakenly believed.

Technically the most basic (Standard) service is the Family package which has approximately 75 (family friendly) channels and is $29.99/mo. But typically it is the Select package which has over 155 channels (including commercial/ad free Music Choice channels, even if YOU don’t listen to them, and no sports) and is currently $67.99/mo. The most basic (All Included) service is the Select package which is currently $90/mo with 1 TV and all equipment services (HD, DVR, Whole Home DVR) included. Depending on what year you signed up, and what kind of equipment you have, your standard offer could have no charges for Advanced Receiver Services (if you still have SD only), or at least $10 (either for HD if you don’t have DVR service, or DVR service if you have free HD) could be $13 (DVR and Whole Home DVR) $15, or $23. (You pay for the services your equipment provides, which are mandatory fees.) Your all included offer could include 2 TV’s in the price, or it could include 4 TV’s in the price, and then obviously the base price would be higher. Just because you barely use the service, doesn’t mean you get to pay less. You are lucky that you are at least getting $30 off for the next year, which you say is still about 50% more than what you were previously paying? So you were getting about $60 off before? Assuming you have the Select all included package with 1 TV included, which is $90/mo, that would have been a very significant loyalty offer for that package. Typically, loyalty offers should only be applied up to 50% off the package price, although if the system has the offer generated, agents are of course going to offer the biggest loyalty offer, especially if the customer previously was getting that much or more off, or if the customer declines the lower offers and starts whining about canceling and switching to Dish or streaming in order to save them. If the system lets it get applied then there you go. Lucky you. But when the 12 months run out, don’t think you’re going to be able to get that offer again. And no you’re probably not going to get a second promo, as once you accept one offer, all other offers become ineligible as they are not stackable. Package prices tend to increase a couple bucks at the beginning of the year due to networks raising costs to carry their programming which is to be expected by now, if you’re really a loyal customer. There is so much you can do with your service, whether you utilize all the features or not, you’re not just paying for basic channels,  you’re paying for a reliable, quality, luxury TV service, when compared to other providers, no one else even comes close, which is why DTV is the #1 rated TV provider over every other cable or satellite company. And having to call ONCE a year to get a discount is not a hassle. At least you’re not paying the standard price.

I agree calling once a year is not really a hassle. However if you have to call as soon as your discounts are up every time, then you don't have the setup that works best in the first place.

If you cannot afford service without discounts, then the fact is you cannot afford it. It is then your reasonability to make changes to the service as needed for your budget instead of expect a business to be charitable and keep giving discounts. Having $30 off is still a great discount. To think otherwise means someone has been overly spoiled.

Discounts on the service are not "mandatory", some customers are provided depending on the account, no longer all are available to everyone.

Like @Juniper said If you cannot afford service without discounts, then the fact is you cannot afford it.

Many customers from different places say that because they stay with the company for many years they are "have" to give something when the truth is not "has" to give them, example :Just because I've bought since I was a kid at the local store doesn't mean I should now be given what I buy.

Literally that would be creating a privileged class with benefits that normal people couldn't have Which would be both unfair and virtually illegal.
