Hello, I have the same question, but this answer does not completely satisfy...

I too have the older, unlimited plan that does not allow hotspots.  If I add a Simm card to my current plan, and use it in the Winegard Connect 2.0, then it should not work because it uses a data only, mobile hotspot connection (which is disabled on my current plan).  In addition, if I change my plan to a newer unlimited that allows hotspots, what I am reading is that each "line" is approved for 15 gb of hotspot each.  So, by that logic, my Winegard Conntect 2.0, in the motorhome would only be good for 15 gbs, even though it is on a unlimited plan.

Could you respond to that please?

Att will only allow mobile hotspots on capped plans.   They are currently not permitted on the unlimited plans.

Are there limits to what I can stream, or how I can use my data?

With both plans, you can browse the Web and play games. On AT&T Unlimited &MoreSMPremium, after 22GB of data usage on a line in a bill cycle, for the remainder of the cycle a customer may temporarily experience reduced speeds on that line during times of network congestion. The plan includes Stream Saver plus you get 15GB per line of a Mobile Hotspot. After 15GB, the hotspot speed is slowed to 128Kbps.

On AT&T Unlimited &MoreSM, for all data usage, customer may temporarily experience reduced speeds on these line(s) during times of network congestion. Video streaming is limited to 1.5 Mbps (SD quality).

Tethering and mobile hotspot use prohibited with the AT&T Unlimited &MoreSM plan (except for eligible Connected Cars).

All AT&T services are subject to AT&T network management policies. See att.com/broadbandinfo to learn more.

Hello @Sdyoungones!

Though our AT&T unlimited plans are excellent for heavy streamers who want to watch their entertainment virtually anywhere, you're more than welcome to use your Wi-Fi extender on any AT&T wireless plan.

Hope this info helps!

I have no idea. I am trying to find out if the connect 2 is gonna work on my plan and they say it will without the hotspot on my phone cause I don’t have it either. But who knows. Don’t want to spend money on connect 2 if it’s not gonna work!

The answer is you can get a data only SIM card (post or prepaid plan) add a line for the device, and run a hotspot on a prepaid, capped or tiered plan.

If you have an unlimited plan you cannot do so.  Unlimited plans do not allow mobile hotspots except for some connected cars.

SIM cards for phones do not work in data only devices.

So what you are telling me is if I buy a connecT 2 and put a sim card in
it, it will not work unless I am paying for a mobile hotspot on my phone?
Because a week ago I was told by ATT that all I needed to do was get a sim
card and put in it the Connect 2 and it would work and there would be no
additional charge? Could you clarify one more time since I have been told
two completely different things. And of course, If I had hotspot I would
have no need for the Connect 2!!

This is the device correct?  I’m not sure if Support understands what it is.  I’m not sure you do.....

Your phone has the ability to create a mobile hotspot.  On unlimited plans hotspot use on your phone or tablet is limited to 10 or 15 gigs.  That isn’t what your asking about.

This device acts as a stand alone mobile hotspot of MIFI device and amplifier for local Wifi signals as well.  I assume to take advantage of wifi in RV parks.

As a stand alone mobile hotspot it cannot be added to an unlimited data plan.  Only a limited data plan or tiered plan.

As a Wifi amplifier it may not require anything but electricity to amplify local signal from an RV park wifi source.

Sure hope I explained that better.

yes it is for my RV. You have clearly explained the connect 2 won't work
with my phone unless I change plans. The connect 2 has plans you can
purchase thru them which I guess I will do because I was told a hotspot on
my phone would cost me $80 plus a month. I originally called to get hotspot
turned on, on my phone and was told to do that it would cost me close to
$80 a month and without that I have no hotspot available at all. But you
are saying I do have 10 to 15 gigs to use on the plan I have now? Do I
understand that right.
Thanks for your info you have been helpful. It's just frustrating because
I keep getting different answers.

I’m not sure that is what I explained, but okay....   it can be put on a tiered plan, or prepaid plan, just not unlimited.  It doesn’t have anything to do with your phone.

I think you must have misunderstood.  I think you were offered unlimited phone data plan at $80.  It allows only 15 gigs of hotspot use a month.  That’s about 5 hours of streaming video.
But you are saying I do have 10 to 15 gigs to use on the plan I have now?
I don’t know what plan you have.  The current Unlimited and More allows each phone 15 gigs of hotspot use.
Do I understand that right.

Not surprised.  ATT employees may know plans, but non US reps are notoriously poorly informed.

Buying through winegaurd, or buying a fixed post or prepaid plan may be your best option.
