Voicemail Bug?
I have been receiving callers with an unrecognized number leaving voicemail message. The voicemail message is actually TWO voicemail messages. The first message is a previously saved voicemail, and the second is the voicemail left by the caller. Each time this happens, a different old, saved voicemail is the first portion of the entire voicemail, then the caller's voicemail is the second portion. I've saved several of these "joined" voicemails to troubleshoot this problem.
Some things I have tried several times without any effect with this issue thus far:
- complete virus scan of my phone
- changing the voicemail password
- resetting the voicemail feature
I'm using a Samsung A70 unlocked phone running Android 10 and all of the security updates.
Has anyone else had this issue happen to them? I've never experienced this type of "bug" ever . . .

Hello Doyin,
The "joined" voicemail started in June 2020. Yes, I have been receiving normal voicemails in the past. No, I do not have a spam blocking app on my device. Yes, I still receive normal voicemails from saved contacts.
These weird voicemails all have a caller ID that is unrecognized (not in my contacts list) and completely unknown to me. At times the weird voicemails are a saved voicemail from my contacts joined with a robocall message. This phenomenon does not happen consistently, but most often with caller IDs that only show the calling tel #. These weird voicemails have caller IDs area codes all over the US (not from a single state).
Any ideas? I have reset my voicemail password several times and this issue still occurs weekly.

Greetings @JRDL!
It's likely your current voicemail experience is the result of spoofing which permits scammers to send messages that appear to be from specific contacts or well known companies.
Scammers can use various technologies to take advantage of people. Whenever possible, feel free to report any suspicious or unwanted calls and text messages here. Also, learn additional steps you can take to protect yourself and report fraud.
Hope this info helps.

The weird voicemails I have received have not only been from unknown numbers but also numbers in my contacts list. Spoofing is definitely happening here and I totally agree with you.
The part that is still unknown is how the voicemails are being "created" with an archived message from months ago (saved in the voicemail system) along with the new message left by the spoof caller. All of these weird messages are two-part voicemails: one old message from the saved voicemail archives; then a new message left presumably by the spoof caller.
Spoofing explains some but not all of what I continue to experience almost on a daily basis with the two-part voicemail messages.
Any clue as to what's really happening here?

If you feel like your service has been compromised you can always change your number using myAT&T. Just a heads up if you do decide to change your number you will not be able to transfer your saved Voicemail over.
We appreciate the opportunity to assist you. Please let us know what you decide to do.
