Reset voicemail account

Never set up the voicemail account and now need to activate the voicemail.  I can get to my voicemail and go thru setup but it never kicks in (can't get to voicemail when calling the phone).  I have tried calling 611 but keep going around in circles and can't get to an actual human.

Any ideas?

Good morning, @firecapt. We know how important it is to be able to access and set up your voicemail, and we're here to help!

You can use these steps to activate your voicemail or reset your voicemail password

  1. Log onto myAT&T either via the website or the myAT&T app. 
  2. Go to your account overview and open My wireless.
  3. Scroll to My Devices & add-ons and choose the device you want to manage.
  4. Select Manage my device.
  5. Look in Device options & settings, choose Reset voicemail password, and follow the prompts.

I have tried this twice now and the new password sent in the text doesn't work...the old password still does.

Thank you for sharing those details with us, @firecapt. Just to clarify, are you able to access your voicemail messages and settings now? If not, please let us know so that we can try some additional troubleshooting steps.

Thanks for getting back to me!

No I am not able to leave a message on the phones voicemail (707-548-2696), all I get is a message that the wireless customer I am calling is not available.  The phone refuses to take the new password but still responds to the old one.

This phone is one of three originally purchased at the same time under the same account.  The phone in question belongs to my Son and he never activated his voicemail account after purchase.  He was recently able to setup the voicemail account but it doesn't work (can't leave a message).  He can access all the other functions of the account.  I read (online) that if the account isn't activated within 60 days it is made "inactive" and needs to be activated at AT&T's end.

Hi Ellen,

Guess what? It didn't work :(   Did everything as instructed and the new password still won't open the voicemail (the old one still does)  I'm now wondering if the voicemail number we filled in (same as mine and my wife's) is the number he should be using for voicemail?  The number we filled in is: 707-301-0008.  If this isn't the proper number could you provide the correct one?
