NumberSync Not Working – Fixes from the Community

Learn how to resolve NumberSync Issues for Your Watch, Tablet, and Smart Device

First, make sure you set up NumberSync. If it is not set up correctly, it will not work.

Set Up/ Create Your ID

Set Up NumberSync (Wearables)

Set Up NumberSync (Tablet)

  1. Create an AT&T user ID.
  2. Select Add wireless number.
  3. Follow the prompts to create your ID.

  1. Go to Messages.
  2. Tap More, then Settings, and finally AT&T Messages Backup & Sync.
  3. Select Turn it on if it’s not already enabled. We’ll send you a confirmation text.

  1. Sign in to NumberSync from your tablet. You may see an alert.

In most instances, you have already set up NumberSync and basic troubleshooting does not work, try the solutions below. If you have not tried basic troubleshooting like power cycling, rebooting the devices, or resetting the network, try those first as they could be quick fixes.

Fix One – Android OS

  1. Restart AT&T Messages on your Smart Device
  2. Go to Message App
  3. Go to settings then More Settings
  4. Select AT&T Message Backup & Sync and Select Restart

Fix Two - Update your OS

NumberSync is designed to work with the latest OS. So, check your device and make sure you have the most recent OS.

Heads Up: If you are using a smart device or smartwatch is a rooted or jailbroken OS, NumberSync may not work correctly. AT&T is unable to troubleshoot this because it is not supported.

Apple & NumberSync

While calls can be forwarded to your Apple Watch. Messaging is not supported as iMessage is a standalone app from Apple and does not tie into AT&T. To get the best experience, turn off iMessage.

What if you didn't want to sync it to a new number & wanted it your wearable to have the same number as your phone but when you set it up you accidentally set up & got a text saying you changed the number, how do you change it back to being just your number again?

We'll be happy to assist you with setting up your NumberSync @BabyK80.

Which phone and wearable do you have? How did you go about setting it up? Did you add the wearable as a separate line on your data plan? If you didn't set it up with a plan of its own, you should be able to simply forward calls to it from your phone.

We look forward to your response. With more details, we'll have a better idea of how to proceed.

From what I can tell, it's all configured properly.

It will turn on and work fine, but only for 5-15 minutes. Then it turns off again.

The troubleshooting guide is no help.

Hello uwporter, let's look further into why your S10 and Galaxy Watch will work and then turn off at certain times in use.

Try un-syncing the watch from the AT&T app and re-syncing the watch with the code on the watch.

Also, make sure that you have the most recent software update on your device to ensure that you have the latest features and device protection options.

Hopefully this information helps, and thank you for reaching out to the AT&T Community Forums.
