I just recently got a used phone off someone and I went to the settings and was needing the imei number for this phone but when I click on the imei slot to pull up the number it says unknown, What do I do to fix this to where I will have an imei number? Also, is there any way I can unlock the service carrier on this phone to completely be unlocked so I'm able to use my new phone?

Hello twiztedbritt, we're happy to help guide you in the right direction to get the IMEI and unlock the device.

You can find the IMEI Number by dialing *#06#. If you're still unable to locate the IMEI, you will need to reach out to the original owner.

If all requirements are met, you can unlock the device online.

The device will need to meet the following unlock eligibility requirements:
  • The device is an AT&T phone or device and isn’t active on another AT&T account.
  • Was paid in full when you bought it (not on an installment plan). You don’t have to wait 60 days to unlock it.
  • Has a paid-off installment plan.
    • Paid through your monthly bill: Submit your unlock request at the start of your next bill period.
    • Paid off early: The wireless number assigned to the device must be active for at least 60 days. Wait 48 hours after you make your final payment to submit your unlock request.
  • Doesn’t have a past-due account balance. Make a payment to bring your account current. It will take 24 hours for your payment to post.
  • Hasn’t been reported as lost, stolen, or involved with fraud.
  • Is an AT&T PREPAID phone that has had paid service for at least six months. Check your device for an unlock app and make sure it has the most recent version of the app. Don’t see the app? Submit an unlock request online.

If you're unable to unlock the device, you will need to reach out to the third party seller.

Let us know if there's anything else we can help you with.
