Has Google Assistant been removed entirely from Alcatel Smartflip phones??

I recently saw notification on my Smartflip phone that software had been updated.  Didn't make note of the date, but I now can find no evidence that Google Assistant is loaded on the phone.  Here are latest Details from Settings:

Model:  4052R

SVN: 05 (software version number?)

Software: KaiOS 2.5.2

Build Number: ZX4OuaO0

Platform Version: 48.0a2

Build Identifier:  20210902101742

No more voice-assisted SMS messaging, which I absolutely relied on.  No more answers to oddball questions.  And I can't even find Google Assistant as a downloadable option under Utilities on the KaiOS Store app.

When I press and hold down the large OK button, there's no response at all.

Google Assistant was the most important value-add function for me on the Smartflip.  Can anyone confirm that it's been intentionally withdrawn by AT&T or Alcatel?  Or is there some setting on the phone I need to change to re-activate it?

Being able to use Google Assistant on your phone and following the latest update is understandable, @cjrtulsa!

However, we want to advise that the latest KaiOS update for the Alcatel Smartflip does not include the Google Assistant. You will want to contact the device and/or software manufacturer for more information.

We do invite you to take a look at some of our selection of phones which will include an artificial intelligence-powered voice assistant like Google Assistant.

Thank you for your participation in our Community/Forums. We hope this info helps!

Your phone has a different operating system that is not based off of Google. If you want to Google operating system with Google Assistant you probably should replace the phone.

Thanks for commenting, @lizdance, but Google Assistant has been a feature of the Smartflip phone since it was first announced by AT&T.  From the current phone listing on the AT&T site:

https://www.att.com/buy/phones/alcatel-smartflip-4gb-volcano-black.html

"Voice dialing and voice commands:  Yes + Google assistant"

Google invested $22 million in KaiOS in 2018 to enhance smart features of the OS, including maps, YouTube, and Google Assistant.  So my question remains:  Is removal of Google Assistant from the SmartFlip intentional?

This just happened to my boyfriend's phone when I updated it for him. He's got mental challenges and the Google Assistant voice commands were such a godsend to him. He is just beside himself right now asking if there is any way I can undo the update...is there?

I have contacted AT&T 4 times about this issue and each time they PROMISE to send me another software update to correct this.

Here is the latest -

"10/27/21 - "Yes, I have asked my internal team again to send update again, and this time you will get the update within next 2-4 hours for sure.

I will also arrange the follow up call to check if everything okay, is that okay for you?"

"AT&T, we'd like to know what your plans are to address this situation!  The Smartflip will be dead without some sort of voice recognition function.  At a minimum, you should immediately update all product information on the web to reflect this new state of affairs."

Perhaps we could do a free upgrade or get another flip phone?

Yes, the marketing MUST be changed or else this is egregious false advertising! And not only on the AT&T website, but also on the Alcatel website, the KaiOS website, and the website of all merchants who resell this device.

This is most not good news for my boyfriend who is autistic. When they cancelled his ancient 3G flip phone he was not happy that he had to switch to this Alcatel but after a few months he has become dependent on the Google assistant and now he is totally distraught. At least for the time being he can still use YouTube but he has to use T9 to "type" his query. Also, using the voice input really has helped him work out his stuttering somewhat. This loss has really messed him up! And now what can we do for him??? He just doesn't understand why an update would break his phone. What do i tell him? How can i help him understand this all?

EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED,

Bruce

That's all good and well, but the bottom line is that AT&T marketed and (in our case) sold the device to us. As the seller, you are obviously going to hold AT&T as the most responsible for handling the situation regardless of how it came about.

PLEASE JUST REPLACE THE PHONE!
