ESIM ACTIVATION
I tried activating esim with my network provider here in Nigeria and I was told to contact my carrier to unlock my iPhone. I checked setting, general and carrier lock: it says no sim restriction so I contacted Apple support and I was told the Lock is from AT&T. I got the phone brand new here in Nigeria and did the unboxing myself so I’m wondering why it could tell me to contact my carrier to unlock iPhone

That makes no sense, “no sim restrictions” means the phone is unlocked. I suspect you bought a phone that has been hacked. For one thing, ATT locked phones are not sold in Nigeria.

We understand how important it is to be able to use your new iPhone, @Bigdips1403.
Thank you @sandblaster for the response.
Start by trying to submit a device unlock request. After submitting your request, keep an eye out for a confirmation email. You have 24 hours to confirm your request. Failure to do so will result in a delayed process. Once approved, you will be able to activate your new SIM.
You may also view our Device Unlock Requirements to be sure your device is eligible prior to submitting your device unlock request.
We hope this helps. Please reach back out with any other concerns.

I’ve tried submitting a device unlock request but it says they can’t complete my unlock request. Other physical SIM cards work on it so I believe there’s no restriction on that. I can’t just get this esim to work with it

Not to mention, I’m not a customer of ATT, don’t live in the US, bought the phone brand new from Nigeria which I did the unboxing myself, under the settings it says ‘no sim restrictions’. Reached out to Apple to know why the esim I tried activating on it doesn’t work and telling me to contact my carrier, and I was told they’re seeing it’s locked by ATT at their end and don’t forget it showed no sim restrictions at my end.

Thank you for the response, @Bigdips1403.
Since you are able to use a physical SIM card on your iPhone with no problem, we do recommend continuing to do so and use a physical SIM to be able to stay connected!
We hope this information helps.
Thank you reaching out to AT&T! Again, we are here for any other questions or concerns.
