Cingular Flip Phone Auto Redial

My Cingular Flip Phone IV will automatically redial the last number I called when I bend over with the phone in my pocket. I just tried pressing on various spots on the case, and it redialled! (But I do not know which press did it.) I do not see anything in the user manual about a redial feature. Any thoughts?

Good morning @jhshiff, thanks for reaching out to us.

I'm sorry to hear the previous troubleshooting did not resolve your issue for your Cingular Flip IV (U102AA) redial issue.

Thank you kindly for providing all this great information. I read that this seems to be only an issue when the device is stored in your pockets and bending or moving. I was able to think of a solution to prevent your phone from auto dialing. I would like to recommend setting up a Screen Lock on your device. This should help prevent the device from registering the buttons while it is locked or accidentally bumped. Please also check that Call Forwarding is not set up.

If you currently have a case on your phone, please remove and or inspect that the case fits correctly and does not dip inwards when pressure is applied.

I hope this helps, thank you for being a part of our AT&T family.

Hi @jonder1,

Thanks for reaching out! Allow us to help.

We'd like to know more about this issue you're experiencing with your phones redialing. Are there specific moments when this issue occurs? Does it only happen randomly? What functions are currently being used when the redialing occurs?

There is an Auto Redial feature, which you can find in the Call Forwarding Menu. There, you can toggle it on or off. Turning this setting should stop the problem from occurring.

Let us know if you have any further questions!

Colin,

Thanks for reaching out. This happens when the phone is in my front pants pocket and I bend over to tie my shoes! It happens randomly. I am not using any functions when it happens. The Call Forwarding menu on my phone has entries for Alwats Forward, Forward When Busy, Forward When Unanswered, Forward When Unreachable, but nothing about Auto Redial. I tried to disable the other options, but that did not take.

Hello @jhshiff

Allow for us to help guide you in the right direction.

To toggle the Auto Redial Option in your mobile device. Access the device's settings under the Call option provided in Settings. Once you're in the Call Settings there should be a option for Auto Redial which you can toggle off or on.

If you can't find the option let us know and we will reach back out to you for further assistance.

Under the network & connectivity tab there is an option that says calling.  In calling  there is call waiting, caller id, call forwarding, call barring, fixed dialing numbers, and dtmf tones.

I think AT&T is talking about a different phone than I am. Mine is aa AT&T Cingular Flip IV (Model U102AA, running KaiOS 2.5.3. As jonder1 says above, the calling menu under Network and Connectivity has entries for call waiting, caller id, call forwarding, call barring, fixed dialing numbers, and dtmf tones.

Hey there @jonder1!

Try resolving your experience by restarting your device. This clears any stored RAM and may help with your device's current trend.

  1. Press and hold the Power/Hang Up button.
  2. Press the down button until Restart is highlighted, then press the OK key to select.
    • Note: If you are unable to access the screen to ‘Restart’ the device or if it becomes unresponsive, press and hold the Power/Hang Up button for 10 seconds, until the device restarts.

Also, check for any software updates due. Updating software keeps the device functioning efficiently.

  1. From the Device Information screen, press the down button to highlight AT&T Software Update then press the OK key. Ensure Check for Update is highlighted, then press the OK key to select.
  2. If an update is available, follow the on-screen instructions to perform the update. If an update is not available, press the OK key.

Hopefully, this will help resolve your device's automatically redialing!

Hello @jhshiff, thank you following up with updates.

If you have access or can get access to WiFi please connect to it and check if your device is updated to the latest software.

You can do this by:

  1. Open settings
  2. Go to device
  3. Device information
  4. AT&T Software Update
  5. Check for Update (If an update is available click and download the update)

Also, if there isn't a update available contact the manufacturer of your device and inquire for known issues and possible replacement.

We hope this helps.

Lar - I power the phone off every night.

Lar and Joyne - There is no update available.

All - I think I figured out what is happening. When I press on the closed case in a certain spot, it activates the Green button, which brings up the Call Log. Then it activates the OK button, which calls the last number in the Call Log. So, the question is - how can I make it stop doing that? I am afraid it is a hardware problem, and since multiple people (at least jonder1 and I) are having this same problem, I am willing to bet there is no solution. I have been putting off buying a Smart Phone for years. You may have just forced me to get one!

I do NOT think it is time to replace the phone I just got in March of this year. Instead I think it is inexcusable that AT&T would sell a phone that behaves this way, and then not know what the actual menu options are on the phone that I have clearly described to you!

In case anyone else is folloiwng this thread, I just wanted to say that the Screen Lock solved the problem. With the screen locked, there is no way to push buttons while the phone is closed (unless, of course, I manage to push the unlock code - not likely! Having the scren locked also seems to have solved another issue I had - being able to decline a call without actually answering it.
