Calls forwarded too many time

Calls to my cellphone are receiving an error message saying calls have been forwarded too many times (message 31) and therefore their call can’t be processed.  I had put this phone on call forwarding a couple of weeks ago.  Is there a limit on the number of calls that will be forwarded before it just quits?  If so that seems ridiculous—especially if you are out of town and have left that cellphone behind!  And where is this rule mentioned, so you know about it before your calls go missing?

Hello @HIexplorer,

Thank you for reaching out to us!  I know how perplexing it can be when you’re getting unexpected errors and I’m happy to help!

The error you’re describing doesn’t mean too many numbers have been forwarded, it actually means that your number is attempting to forward incoming calls to five or more other numbers and the system can’t handle the routing.  It sounds like something went wrong during call forwarding setup, and the phones not able to route the incoming calls properly.

I would recommend double checking your call forwarding settings within your phone, and if needed canceling and re-setting it just be sure everything is entered properly!  Then restart your phone, and give it a call to test it. If you’re still having the problem after taking these steps, please let me know, and we can do some more troubleshooting.

I look forward to hearing back from you!

I just had someone tell me the same thing when they tried to call my AT&T iPhone 6S - but I am receiving calls from other people with no issue.  When they tried to call me, my phone didn't ring, nor did it show a missed call.  I do not use the call forwarding feature.  Is there some reason some people are receiving this message?

This problem has been floating around for some time. Above, RiAnn states that the message means that the call is being forwarded to too many numbers. That is FLAT OUT WRONG! Where did she get that tidbit of information? If that were the case, I'm sure AT&T would have another message that states precisely that.

I have this problem, and forwarding works for a couple of days, then callers hear that message. I usually get an email from a customer about it. Otherwise I would have absolutely no idea that people can't call me. Every thread I've seen about this problem has NO solution, even when the tag says it does. Then the AT&T people just vanish. There are 3 posts (now 4) in this thread, with NO solution, while RiAnn vanishes. The other annoying thing is that in some threads, the AT&T helper offers to furnish a solution via private message?? Is the solution a secret? What's the point of these threads then??

Hate to be a buzz kill for anyone, but if someone calls you and your message says "Sorry the number you're calling has been forwarded too many times", it's more than likely that the person you are calling is being investigated by a law enforcement agency, or someone THEY know who is either selling drugs, or basically a criminal, is calling THEM often and now they too are being investigated!!! And for those who are actually criminals reading this and wondering WHY YOUR PHONE is sending out these messages to other's,  then you should probably think twice before what you say over the phone, or to be BLUNT about it, STOP BREAKING THE LAW!!! Because FYI, They ARE Listening!!! Trust me, I know!!! Patriot Act is a B@@@@ isn't it!!!!

Sargedean70 -  Your comment is complete and utter hogwash.   I'm no drug dealer or criminal and people calling my forwarded iPhone get the same error:  "Forwarded too many times".   If you have nothing of value to post, then ZIP IT !     People like you need a good punch in the head, fake Detective Sgt. Dean......
