block numbers by prefix or wildcard?

For the last several years, most of the fraud calls I receive have spoofed the same area code + prefix as my own number.  In other words, only the last 4 digits of their phone number will be different from mine.  And it's different every time, so I can't simply block each one.

I would love it if I could block by wildcard.  Does Mobile Security & Call Protect Plus have such a feature?

There are ways to handle those spam messages @regoveena!

Let's look into that for you. Perform one or more of the following steps to report texting scams:

  • Alert AT&T by forwarding the suspicious text to 7726 on your device. Messages forwarded to 7726 are free. They don't count toward your text plan. If you're not able to view the number, forward us the entire message to abuse@att.net.
  • Forward those annoying calls and texts to AT&T by visiting here.
  • You can forward a suspicious text message to the Anti-Phishing Working Group or report it to the FTC.

Taking either action above should help resolve those spam messages.

Hope this info helps!

Hi Lar.  Thanks for your response, but your suggestions pertain to individual phone numbers.  I want to block a whole range of phone numbers.

For example, let's say hypothetically that my phone number is 1-555-876-5309.  That means the scammers call me from fake generated phone numbers like this:

1-555-876-2315

1-555-876-9324

1-555-876-5136

1-555-876-1240

etc.

See the pattern?  That's what the scammers are doing to us, but the numbers they generate are based on our own phone numbers.  They're just randomizing the last 4 digits.  That also means it's useless to report each number after I receive it.

If I could simply block all numbers that start with certain digits, that would solve my problem.  For example, if my phone number was "1-555-876-5309" and this was happening to me, I would want to block any number that starts with "1-555-876-".

Hi @regoveena,

Thank you for reaching back.

At the moment, the only way to filter these spam numbers out is to use the AT&T Call Protect Plus. Even though it does not have the provision to filter by prefixes, it is able to filter out all the spam calls coming to your number.

We hope this helps.
