AT&T Wi-Fi Calling

Talk and Text in More Places!

 Hello Community!

We pride ourselves in being able to deliver a blazing fast network across the United States, along with partnerships across the globe!  This allows us to have coverage in most areas where you need and want service.

We all have run into those areas where we don’t have the bars we need though.  To help keep you connected, AT&T has introduced Wi-Fi Calling!  In the thread below we will list all available devices that support Wi-Fi calling.

This will be a living document, and will be updated with future releases as well.

I think I've made up my mind to dump ATT as my carrier. I gave you a shot & you failed miserably.

Not that you don't already know this, but there is a very large Nexus 5x & 6p user base that would like to see wifi calling on their devices.  It works with your competition, and those who see how well this works will begin to go to the other providers.

If you look at the amount of Nexus devices sold it's a drop in the bucket. There are probobly less than 1 million Nexus devices on att. With 130 million subs that's not even on there radar.

I have two questions:

  1. Does WiFi Calling work with the MicroCell which I currently use or can I turn the MicroCell off?
  2. Does anyone else see a huge battery drain since doing the latest update to add WiFi Calling? Since the upgrade, Android System is consuming 50% of my battery which wasn't the case before the update.

Hey Tim, I live in the Santa Cruz mountains and I got great reception when I first got my Galaxy S4, 4G in fact. Upgraded to an S5 and now I get 2 bars. I don't know if it's a tower or phone problem. I believe a Microcell unit will work. I read on Android Centeral that you guys might provide one. Treating it like a cable box. Is this true? My other route would be a Yagi on the roof to a repeater in the house, that Amazon has for under a $100. Microcell's are like $300, so being a full time student I need to check my options. Thanks

So when's Galaxy S7 Active getting it? It is AT&T's flagship after all.

Hey @gregsanders

I totally understand the limited funding as a full time student, I’m suffering through a little bit of the same lol Smiley Sad I will be more than happy to look into your options with you!

A Microcell is going to provide you with a cellular connection in your home through an active Microcell device connected to your broadband Internet. Satellite and wireless broadband are not compatible. Do keep in mind that when you leave your home, you’ll leave the Microcell coverage area. The device will only work for coverage in the home where you are currently limited. Once you are traveling outside of the home, you will then of course connect to the network along your route of travel.

With the Microcell device, we are currently running a $75.00 mail in rebate after purchase. You have the option of purchasing the device in any AT&T Corporate store location. You can locate a nearby store location by clicking on Store Locations & Appointments.

The device must be purchased between 11/18/14-9/30/16, so you do have a bit of time still. For that rebate, you will go to the AT&T Microcell website > Tap on the FAQ tab > Scroll down to Billing/Account > Enlarge the question “Are there rebates available with the purchase of an AT&T Microcell? Where can I find the forms?” The rebate will be printable with the instructions to send it in.

Let us know how it goes! We would love to hear back from you and know if this helped out! Take care and have an awesome week ahead!

Please add GoPhone plans to this service.

I have a 6s but only get 1 dot of coverage in my suburban Columbus home (pathetic), so having a wifi option would be very nice for my plan. And my calls!

Once again i feel like att does not value me as a customer because I have a go phone account, at&t obviously only cares about my payment but not treating me lije a valued customer due to my "account type", i have a j3 go phone, didnt notice wi fi calling option for me, why at&t why do we go phone customers get treated as second rate, not aorthy of plan holder features or even access to the good phone, basically at&t downs on us,all at&t go phone customers should drop them at same time, bet they would quickly figure out a way to get us the same features and phones

because pre paid is cheap thats why....  Prepaid pays a ton less than most post paid customers so the customers who pay more get more for there value.  No prepaid carrier offers wifi calling at this point.  You have access to better phones and you will pay the same price as post paid customers.
