AT&T is now charging for spam blocking that it used to include for free?

I recently upgraded my phone and now AT&T wants to charge me $3.99 a month for an "advanced" version of its Call Blocker feature. (Edited per community guidelines)?

Before "upgrading," I had the option to permanently block a number as soon as I hung up. Now, to reach the "Block Caller" setting, I have to:

  1. Call the number back
  2. Hang up before they answer
  3. Enable the "Block Number" setting in the 0.5 seconds before it disappears.

Who's brilliant idea was this and what can we do about it?

There is a free version, and a paid version.  The paid includes caller ID and other perks.

So.... I got caller ID for free on my old plan. Why do I have to pay for it now? I'm being add-on'ed to death.

AT&T also lied to me. Their "get a free phone " claim is a flat out lie.   They FORCE you into getting a higher priced plan and THAT is how the "free phone" scam works.

Their false advertising is now costing me almost $30 a month more for a plan I do not want or need

PLUS, like you said, they want more money to block spam calls.  It WAS free before.

I have always used AT&T but never again.  What a ROTTEN and deceptive company they have become

You mean just like it works on T-Mobile and Verizon? Verizon won't even let you get the starter unlimited plan to get a free phone you have to upgrade to the second or third higher tier to qualify.

It's Not false advertising -  it's published very well on their website and on any paperwork that you signed agreeing to a phone deal.

Did you read what you signed?

Call protect is free.. call protect Plus is not free. You can remove call protect Plus add-on in your add-ons online and go back to the free version

Why would ANYBODY "claim" to not be an AT&T EMPLOYEE, yet respond to customer complaints?

You are not fooling anybody.

Because that's what community forums do?

Where's my check?

I don't get any benefits from posting here. I'm not even AT&T customer anymore I switch to Verizon in 2019. By the way Verizon messed up my trade-in deal.
