When will AT&T Support Advanced Messages on more Unlocked Phones?

I found this Service capabilities for your unlocked device PDF that was Last updated: February 27, 2020. I have an unlocked LQ G8 ThinQ and the phone clearly supports Advanced Messaging since there's an option for me to turn it on in the stock Google Messaging app. However, this capability hasn't worked ever since I put the phone on the AT&T network and now I understand why after finding this PDF.

AT&T: Why do you support Advanced Messaging on so few unlocked phones? Is there a plan to add support to more unlocked phones? If so, when? The AT&T branded LQ G8 ThinQ supports it so I don't understand why the manufacturer unlocked version doesn't.

General rant and complaint: Why isn't AT&T customer service aware of things like this PDF? I called multiple times and spoke with clueless people who wasted my time. I've seen so many posts on this forum with other customer complaints similar to other experiences of mine, e.g. slow text messages, dropped text messages, issues with AT&T not recognizing IMEI numbers, etc. Overall, I can make phone calls, Internet works ok, etc. but jeez, get your act together when it comes to customer service. It's just terrible.

Hello, @quantumbrnz,

Thanks for this. To use Advanced Messaging, devices must be able to use HD Voice for AT&T. Some unlocked phones are setup for it. some aren't. Here's more information on Advanced Messaging.

Have a great week.

My unlocked phone supports HD Voice, I see it under Network & internet > Enhanced Calling. The specs for the AT&T version says it supports it too.

Hi @quantumburnz;

We appreciate your feedback. We believe that your device will be provisioned for the Advanced Messaging when the software is made available. We would also have loved to give you a specific date, but as of now, there is none.

As this is an AT&T in-house software, we are confident that you should be provisioned for Advanced Messaging soon.

Please reach back to us if you need further assistance.

When what in-house AT&T software is made available? Whatever software you're referring to, it's already in the AT&T branded version of the phone, right?

Thank you for reaching back, @quantumburnz;

As stated in the earlier post, there is no specific time-frame we can provide you right now. Even though, Advanced Messaging is included in the AT&T branded devices, manufacturer unlocked devices typically have some delays in the provisioning of such capabilities. There is no way to predict how long that delay will be.

We would be happy to help if you need further assistance.

I wasn't asking for anything related to a timeline. I was trying to understand what in-house AT&T software has to be developed.

Thank you for reaching back, @quantumburnz;

Your device needs a software update from AT&T to provision the AT&T Advanced Messaging capability. For AT&T branded devices, these have been installed along with other optimizations that make them work properly.

For an unlocked device, the process is different.

Let us know if you need more assistance.
