Voicemails not arriving timely

For the last few months, I am not receiving my voicemails, nor any notifications for voicemails, until hours or even days later.

This is unacceptable.

I have wifi calling turned on and an excellent internet connection, though sadly my cell connection has been very poor ever since Hurricane Michael hit our area 2.5 years ago.

Pixel 4a with brand new sim card.

What can be done to fix this besides switching to Verizon?

I see that this has been an ongoing problem for many people.  I thought turning on wifi calling would fix this problem, but sadly it has not.
