Unable to send text messages to one number

Hello,

I am wondering is someone knows of a way to fix this problem: I was in Mexico and used my phone there to text a few people back here in the States. When I returned to the US, I tried to send a text to one of those same numbers and I received the following message as a bounce-back text from this number : 121611611  "Error Invalid Number. Please re-send using a valid 10 digit mobile number or valis short code".  The phone number I was trying to text appeared in the bounce back text message as a US number (which it is) but with the 52 country code  of the US (that one uses when making international calls) in front of the area code.

Can anyone help me fix this issue?

We hope you enjoyed your trip, @NoVaRN! Let us help you to find why you are receiving that error message when you are trying to send a text message to that contact.

First, try resolving your experience by copying the number down on a sheet of paper, deleting the number from your stored contacts, then try sending a text message to that same number by pressing +1, then the area code followed by the local number.

For example, you will want to dial +1.212.555.3456 to make a call or send a text to the U.S. (even when dialing from another country). If successful, re-store the contact on your phone.

The error code 121611611 "Error Invalid Number. Please re-send using a valid 10 digit mobile number or valid short code" means the number you are texting is in the incorrect format.

Dialing 52 before the area code and local number is attempting to reach a Mexico-based mobile number. Learn more by visiting Call and text internationally and checkout the information underneath the section What to know.

Give this a try and let us know how this worked for you!
