Text notifications for contacts only
I want my phone to sound off for texts from contacts only, and stay silent for all other texts/alerts. Is this doable? I have an android phone.

Have you tried the custom options in Do Not Disturb mode?
Depending on what type of Android device you have, you should be able to customize your sounding off preference to a wide degree with the options shown above.
