Suddenly getting a bunch of SMS spam from Internet-based sources. HOW DO WE DISABLE THIS?

Suddenly I'm getting bulk spam SMSes from a source that's shown as a GMail account. Verizon put a stop to this (Edited per community guidelines) almost a decade ago, with a simple setting on your account to block Internet-based spam.

But NOT AT&T? HOW DO WE BLOCK THIS?

I called AT&T's "tech support" and got the usual "we're helpless" routine... with the added twist of claiming that there's no real tech support for AT&T customers anymore. Now, according to this person, there's no way to get beyond the almost totally ignorant first line of defense that AT&T puts up against customers and talk to a somewhat legit technical resource.
