The good thing about the GoPhone plans is that you will not receive any surprise charges on your account. If you exceed the usage in Canada what will happen is that your account will be cancelled and you will have to activate with a new SIM card and a new number. If your usage in Canada and exceeds your usage in the U.S. then you may encounter this issue.

@lizdance40 Exactly. Any non-AT&T branded cell phones (i.e. unlocked from another carrier or sold directly from the manfacturer) can experience issues with cellular data and its related services like tethering, MMS, etc. This goes for prepaid GoPhone and postpaid plans and their respective devices. Other carriers are going to have similar issues with unlocked devices on their networks.

@aTeamxM4TT

that I am afraid is the most false statment I have seen today.  I can take a nexus 6p and activate it on Tmobile and get wifi calling and enhanced LTE service and I can do the same of verizon and sprint.  THe only carrier I cant do that on ATT.

Ok enough of this back to the topic at hand.

I have a concern in regards to the data thottling to 128 kbps and MMS issues. Since MMS is not rated against our data usage, would it possible to have it bypass the 128 kbps throttle to ensure we are able to receive our picture messages?

If not, what is the minimum requirement in order to receive a picture message and would there be any consideration on changing the throttle amount to said requirement?

Not a question but rather a comment on the recent change to the lowest level Passport plan of $40 replacing the $30 plan. I have used the $30 plan many times and have been able to get by on the 120mb provided by the plan. Since the per megabyte rate for the $40 plan is the same as it was at $30, $0.25/mb, you are effectively forcing users to buy an additional 80mb whether needed or not. On the $30 plan even if I did go over and reached 200mb, I still only got charged $40 but if I only went over by a few mb, I only had to pay for those mb used. Please re-instate the $30 plan.

I completely agree.  The only difference I see is $10 more gets you hotspot access like the higher priced plans.

Dont want it, don't need it.  If I'm on vacation, don't bother me and I won't bother you.  Many just want a safety net, not full service.

@Alanbell240 with the new data plans audio and video streaming, picture and video messaging, selected apps and services, as well as other data usage, including usage of data that is sponsored, will be impacted and may not be fully functional or work at all once slowed to the 128kbps for therest if the bill cycle. However at this time it is not in consideration to change the 128kbps speed. Customers will have the option to change to a larger data plan to gain full access to high speed data.

@lizdance40 Hotspot worked fine on the $30 plan. I know because that was the only time I ever used up the 120mb when I turned it on for my iPad and the iPad proceeded to download app updates.

Hi @Cocchis

That’s a great question and we know that this affects many of our customers! Luckily we have multiple ways to track this usage so you can spend less time worrying about your data and more time enjoying your vacation!

Most devices have built-in usage trackers, and most communication-manager applications on laptops are capable of tracking data usage. Here are some other options to view your international usage while traveling abroad:

  • View wireless usage details using the myAT&T app or from our mobile site (m.att.com/myatt). Find out how to get the myAT&T app.
  • Download a third-party tracking application (typically under Data Manager) from your device app store.

You can find some great resources from our online site that will provide more information and tips on how to greater control your data usage while travelling. You can find them by clicking here and clicking here.

Sorry, I worded incorrectly.  On the previous travel packages, the ATT passport app and access to ATT hotspots were available to travelers.  I understood the $30 plan did not offer these additional perks.

For a family that just want to text to keep in touch, the $30 plan was more than enough.
