Set up hotspot

I can’t set my iPad to work as a hotspot. The iPad is gen6. My plan is dataconnect 25. The ATT troubleshoot verified my plan as compatible. I have cleared the wifi cache. I have rebooted the iPad. I have cycled the cellular data off and on. I still get the message that I need to set up hotspot with ATT. What am I missing?

Hello @dale5372, we are here to help you with your Hotspot.

Hello there @dale5372, let's get you in the right direction for your iPad Hotspot.

Before we begin, have you been able to set up your Personal Hotspot, since your data plan must include a Personal Hotspot feature. Please confirm your data plan includes a Personal Hotspot then turn off Wi-Fi, as Wi-Fi must be disabled to enable Personal Hotspot.

Monthly postpaid data plan

  1. Sign in to myAT&T to change your monthly postpaid data plan.
  2. Select My wireless > Manage my plan or See my plan and features.
  3. Follow the prompts to add or change your plan

Prepaid DataConnect Pass plan

  1. Sign in to your DataConnect Pass account from:
  2. From the Account Overview page, select Add/Edit Domestic Data Plan or Cancel Plan.
  3. Follow the prompts to add (renew)change, or cancel plan. If canceling auto renew:
    • Selecting Cancel Auto Renew will deactivate auto renew and the account is cancelled after 60-days of inactivity.
    • Selecting Cancel Plan/Account Now will immediately cancel the account and any remaining data will be lost.

Please give this a try and post back for additional support.

I’m new to ATT, trying to set up hotspot for the first time.

The ATT troubleshooter includes a link to check the plan. It returns a message confirming my plan includes hotspot. I also checked using the myATT app. Yes, according to both methods I am paying for hotspot.

WiFi is off.

I appreciate the attempts to help. The copy/paste of the troubleshooter steps merely repeated what I stated I had tried, albeit I didn’t go into detail. I tried them all again, just to be certain.

Last night I looked more closely at my ATT account. The account was incorrectly showing my service as an “Amber Alert GPS Tracker” instead of an “iPad.” I called ATT and was assisted by a very helpful person. The ATT computer data was corrected, which solved the problem of the hotspot. To my delight it now works as expected.

I don’t want to bash not be inappropriate, but neither the “accepted solution” nor the “official solution” was the corrected response in this case.
