Sending a text message via an email is not working from US to Mexico. Why?

I can a send a text message to a US AT&T cell phone number from within the US by typing a small message in email and sending it to [email scrubbed].  This will work fine and the person gets the SMS text message on there phone.

However, when I try this from the US to a Mexico City, Mexico phone number, the person never receives the text.

I have tried all these formats:  [email scrubbed], [email scrubbed], +[email scrubbed], +[email scrubbed] .

So I have tried it with 011 and +.  Also, with and without the 1 after the country code.  Nothing seems to work.

(NOTE: they are scrubbing what I want to show.  I am sending in the format "number" + "@" + "txt.att.net")

What is the correct format?

Thanks,

B

Hello, @bm88,

Thank you for reaching out. We'd love to help. The address will vary by carrier. If it's a carrier based in Mexico the, yes, you will need to include the 1 and the country code in the address. If it's an AT&T phone, then you wouldn't need the 1 and country code.

If the provider isn't AT&T, you would want to check with them to verify the appropriate address.

Likewise, if you're sending an MMS instead of an SMS, the address will change.

Which type of text message are you sending and which carrier are they using?

Hi,

We only want to send an SMS text.  The carrier is AT&T in Mexico City.  We are currently using "@txt.att.net" as the email address.

Thanks

Hi @bm88,

Thank you for reaching back. Let us take a closer look.

In attempting to send the message to Mexico, did you:

  • try sending the message to another number in Mexico
  • check if the recipient has a spam blocker
  • does it bounce back with any error messages
  • have you ever succeeded in sending the @txt.att.net SMS to Mexico before now

Let us know so we can assist further.

I have tried several different cell numbers in Mexico.   This is the first time I have tried with Mexican numbers.

I tried the number 4 different ways and they come back "Undeliverable" and the message is "the number..." "wasn't found at txt.att.net.".
