Samsung S10e MMS Text Randomly add Unknown Number and BCC the Group Members

When I send a text message to a group of co-workers the messages separate from the group.  The message is BCC to each member separately.  I have Reset the network settings on the phone, Deleted the message thread and re-added the members, Made sure the advance message settings show group messages is on, updated all apps on the phone, default messaging app, I'm lost on how to fix it as I do not see what generates the unknown being the direct contact and the group being BCC.

@DWDevelopments let's try and get that messaging issue taken care of,

We appreciate that you have attempted all of the previous steps you listed. Let's try seeing if disabling "Send as Split Threads" removes this issue from the device.

  • Go send message settings
  • Enable the "send as split threads" setting. If it is disabled, this will send individual threads instead of one group text.
  • Also Go to settings > apps > tap on Messages > tap on force stop > then tap on storage and clear the cache and data.

A few questions:

  • Have you tried this from any other messaging apps and had the same issue replicated? IE: Handcent or any other messaging application.
  • does anyone on the receiving end have their group messaging turned off or have their number blocked?

Let us know if we can help any further. Thank you.

@ATTHelp

  • Go send message settings - If you meant this as the message settings I was able to get there, if you meant it as send message settings I did not find this option.
  • Enable the "send as split threads" setting. If it is disabled, this will send individual threads instead of one group text.  - I am unable to find this setting anywhere in the message settings for this phone or the old phone.
  • Also Go to settings > apps > tap on Messages > tap on force stop > then tap on storage and clear the cache and data. - Tried this and it worked for a moment and then the messages started splitting again.

A few questions:

  • Have you tried this from any other messaging apps and had the same issue replicated? IE: Handcent or any other messaging application. - I only use the default messaging app from the phone and have never added any other messaging apps to the send message settings.  I did try Google Hangouts on the old phone but when I used it, I used Google hangouts as Google Hangouts.
  • does anyone on the receiving end have their group messaging turned off or have their number blocked? - No one in the group has group messaging turned off and no one has their number blocked, group messaging worked flawlessly on the old phone.

@DWDevelopments thanks for responding,

Apologies for the typo for the first bullet point. Yes, that was to go into message settings. It looks like we may need to get you over to a PM to have this investigated further. We will have someone with you shortly to get your information and work with you.

Hi @DWDevelopments,

Thank you for reaching out.

We understand you are having some concerns with your group messages splitting. We are curious to know if this is unique to one group or it happens to all the groups you have. Also, did you try to create a new group with the same contacts to see if the error repeats.

Do let us know if this helps.

I just got the phone last week so I only have 2 groups both contain mostly the same people and the issues happen with each group.  I have deleted all of the messages and created new groups.  The error does repeat itself but as I said it is not like I know when it is going to send the messages to unknown and BCC the group members.

Spoke to the ATT Tech Support Team @the number they deregistered and re-registered my SIM.  Problem still present. I am starting to believe it is due to the Apple Tapbacks that the people send back in the group.  Also I have noticed that sometimes the members in the group are listed differently in the members details if that helps any...

I have been having the same issue with the same phone. It is not every time I send a group message. It just randomly does it. Was this ever solved or do I need to get a new phone??
