Not Receiving group text messages from tmobile customers

I recently ported from tmobile to att and for about 2 weeks, everything was fine. Last week I noticed that I was not receiving group messages from tmobile family and friends. We are in a group chat with different users (Att, Verizon, and Tmobile). I receive the ones from Tmobile. Individual texts from them, I can get.

I am having the same issue. I switched from T-mobile to AT&T two weeks ago. Since then, my group texts no longer work. If others send a text within the group chat, I never see it but others in the group can see it. I can see texts that are sent to me directly.

I added my work cell to the chat, and can see replies on there, but my AT&T phone does not receive them.

Spoke with three AT&T reps, and none of them can figure it out.

Hello @jasont3k, we're happy to help with a few additional troubleshooting steps to resolve your group text concerns.

Advanced Messaging service allows you to send high-resolution photos and larger video files, up to 100MB per attachment, with group chats up to 100 participants. You’ll be able to see when your messages have been delivered, when they are read, and even when others are typing a response.

You can manage Advanced Messaging, including turning it off, in the messaging Settings menu. In your phone’s messaging app, go to Settings and tap Advanced Messaging to turn Advanced Messaging on or off this has helped others in the past resolve group text disruptions. In addition, you can the follow the steps below for additional solutions:

  • Restart your device. In some instances it may just be cached information, and restarting the device can resolve it.
  • Clear storage from the messenger app. Go to Setting >Tap on Apps > Select Messages app > Tap Storage > Select Clear Cache.

One thing you want to verify are the settings that allow you to group message. Make sure they are enabled by:

  • Opening Messages > Tap on the 3 dots > Settings > More Settings > Multimedia Messages > Verify group conversations is enabled. In some instances, you need to perform a combination of the above and a Network Reset.
  • If your previous device was an iPhone and used iMessage. Apple still thinks you have an iPhone and messages are sent to iMessage rather than your Android device and you will need to disable or unregister it

Let us know if you have any questions. Thank you for contacting AT&T Community Forums.

Atthelp, I've done all of that and have talked to about 15 reps and went to 3 different stores. Still nothing.

Hello @Fpzjr622 we are here to help with your group messages.

Let's see if we can restore your group text messages. Try these reset instructions:

  1. Go into Settings>Messages>MMS/SMS>disable the feature.
  2. Go into Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings>enter your passcode>Restart Network Settings.
  3. Go into Settings>Messages>MMS Messaging and toggle it back on.
  4. Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Press and hold the Slide button until you see the Apple logo.

Have you tried our Troubleshoot and Resolve Tool? It’s like having your own personal technical support assistant! Once here, choose your device and select Messaging under Service/network issues. Answer all the questions as accurately as possible to receive the best resolution.

If this doesn't help, please let us know.

Thank you for responding @Fpzjr622.

We'll need a little more context in order to proceed.

  • Are you able to send group texts to customers who aren't with T-Mobile? Are you able to send regular texts? This will help us determine if the matter is actionable on our end or if this is strictly a T-Mobile matter.
  • Which device are you using? We can offer more specific guidance for your particular device.
  • You mentioned that you've previously reached out to AT&T? Do you have a ticket number? If so, we can follow up on that and check the status of it.

We look forward to your response so that we can get this resolved for you!

I CAN NOT SEE THEIR TEXTS WHEN IN GROUP SETTING.  One-to-one texying, it all works fine.
  • Which device are you using? We can offer more specific guidance for your particular device. iPHONE 13 ProMAx
  • You mentioned that you've previously reached out to AT&T? Do you have a ticket number? If so, we can follow up on that and check the status of it. I DO NOT HAVE A TICKET NUMBER.  I DID CALL AT&T and they are aware, or so I think.  I was promised a call back yesterday,  but that never happened, which I come to expect

Not only is this issue STILL not resolved, but it's also frustrating that AT&T help person here is addressing everyone else except me, the original poster.

And all the things you have suggested, I've done and still nothing.

Maybe it’s time we all leave At&T. This is getting beyond ridiculous. We should all at least get a large refund!  I left my former carrier because of service issues.

I've been having the same issue. I switched from T-Mobile to AT&T on June 1 (phone number was ported over). For the first two weeks my group messaging to Tmobile customers was working fine. Suddenly, I stopped receiving them. I can text them one on one but can't receive pictures from them. When in a group chat, they receive my text but I do not receive any replies from them. Not happening with anyone outside the Tmobile network. I've done ALL of the steps previously listed. Spoke to several Tech Support reps. Even factory reset my phone and got a new SIM card. I even called Tmobile to make sure the phone number was ported out correctly on their end. Nothing works and it's really frustrating. I have 4 lines with AT&T (1 G22 Plus, 2 iPhone 13 Pro Max and 1 iphone 13) and this is happening to every phone. And this is not an Android to iphone issue or vice versa. AT&T really needs to get on the ball and fix this issue.

At&t says it’s a TMobile issue. TMobile wont talk to me since I am no longer a customer. Stuck between the (Edited per community guidelines) and the tide. Someone needs to get this figured out.

Hello fsimm28, We're here to help you with group messaging and MMS.

We understand the importance of texting in groups. Let's try a few steps to restore group text functionality.

Fix 1

Close and relaunch the Message app - tap the Home button twice and swipe the Messages app up.

Fix 2

Make sure you have enough space - this will require deleting file like images and videos.

Fix 3

Tap Settings > Scroll down and tap Messages > Scroll down to SMS/ MMS

and disable the feature and then enable it (also known as toggling the feature).

Fix 4

Go to Settings > Tap on General > Scroll down and tap Reset > Select Reset Network Settings Enter your pass-code > Tap Restart Network Settings

Heads Up: This will delete Wi-FI and network settings on your device.

Fix 5

Delete the group conversation and start a new one - this may or not resolve the issue. You will lose the group conversation. Consider backing up your device beforehand is recommended.

Let us know if this helps!
