No text received sound when on a call

We have an iPhone 6s, 11 and 12 and when we're on a call none of us hear a "text received" sound. The phones are not switched to silent, we are on iOS 14.1, we have checked all of our user settings and have text tones on, and we are not on DND mode. Unless we're looking directly at our phone to see a message only the banner displays or a number to indicate that there are texts in Messages. Even while on a call and texting someone in the message itself there is no text sound alert when receiving a text. Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

Greetings @jtam,

We understand that you're not hearing any text alert sounds when receiving a SMS message unless on the banner.

  • When did you first notice this issue?
  • Have you tried to "Restore Factory Settings?"
  • Do you hear other alert sounds like for other applications?
  • Did you try to "Reset All Settings?"

To confirm what you’re suggesting as one of the fix options, a brand new iPhone 12 requires factory resetting?

We all noticed the issue for the past month. None of us hear any alerts, Messages, Mail, etc when on a call.

Hey there again! @jtam,

Thanks for the quick Reponses and providing those details.

To answer your question, Yes. Feel free to try "Factory Resetting" your device to see if that helps or not.

Also have you made sure that you "Toggle Sounds" when you went to Notifications > Messaging?

  • The phones you mentioned are they AT&T branded phones or from a third-party?

I guess I have never encountered that situation but I don’t think there is anything to fix. I don’t believe you are supposed to hear an audible alert for an incoming message while you are on a call. Oh, and @ATTHelp there is no such thing as an ATT branded iPhone.

The iOS update today resolved this issue and we can hear the notification sounds across all 3 phones now.
