No cellular data connection on Apple Watch 4 (but can make calls and send texts)

I am having a consistent problem with my wife's new Apple Watch 4 being able to make cellular calls but not use any cellular data.  It all started about a month ago when I first got the watch and spent 5 hours on phone with AT&T for the cellular calling/SMS and data not working. At the end of the call, I had to go to an appointment and didn't get either issue resolved. That evening my wife was able to make phone calls so I figured the cellular data was also working since the calling was fixed. However, she is not tech savvy and just told me the phone part was working but that she thinks the cellular data was not working for the past month. I logged into my AT&T account and confirmed that she has used 0.00 GB of her data. I then triaged the issue by disconnecting the bluetooth on the watch from the phone, turning off the wifi, and even turning the iPhone completely off. When I do this, there is a cellular connection shown when you swipe up on the watch and it even shows the 4G LTE coverage bars and can make calls and send texts. However, there is clearly no cellular data connection based on me trying to use a few different apps that pull data. It says it is linked to my AT&T account but that there is no connection (even though I have cellular bars and can make calls). I then un-synced the watch from my AT&T plan by deleting the AT&T cellular account in the Watch app on iPhone and re-synced it and the issue persisted. I then clicked the Reset All Network Settings on my iPhone and then on the Watch as well (through the watch app on iPhone) and this did not help either. I also made sure the software on the iPhone and Watch are up to the most current version available. I am pretty tech savvy and can usually solve my own problems but I am honestly not sure here what is causing the issue. I really don't want to spend another 5 hours on the phone with AT&T talking to someone who is not much more familiar with the way this device works than I am...I need an AT&T expert or someone with knowledge about this specific issue. Please please please help me

Hi, @zach09876,

 

We'd love to help with this. Are you currently able to use data on your phones? If so, sign into your myAT&T account, go to the AT&T Troubleshoot & Resolve Tool, and follow the steps provided to check the Watch. If that doesn't help with the data connection, you may want to consider doing a factory reset on the Watch. Let us know if this helps.

I’m having the same issue as @zach09876 . I can make and receive phone calls on my Apple Watch while iPhone is turned off. However, the Watch can’t access cellular data. In Settings > Cellular > Status, it says “No connection.”

 

I tried the methods suggested by James @ATTHelp . Unfortunately, they didn’t work.

I have purchased every Apple Watch since Series 3 and every single time it’s the same thing. A nightmare to set up with Att. Countless hours on the phone with tech support which has no solutions. After numerous resets, somehow it starts working. Currently experiencing the same thing AGAIN with Series 6. Hopeless ...

Verizon hasn’t even whitelisted the series 6, so people can’t even activate it on Verizon.  Customers are told it’s an invalid device.  
Quickest way is at an AT&T store.
