New to AT&T and cannot receive texts from short code numbers (verification texts)
Hi to the AT&T Community,
I am new to ATT (3 mo) and ever since I made the change, my iphone stopped accepting text messages from any business who sends me a verification code. I spent half an hour on the phone with AT&T technical support only to be told that the rep had to write up a ticket and escalate my problem to a tech team that is better than the tech support team that he is on. The rep said that I would hear from someone within 48 hours.
It's now been over a week and no one has contacted me. I don't know how else to get help from ATT and I am hoping someone out there has the solution. Please note that I have been walked through all the basic checks done with technical support and none of them helped.
It's a major problem because if I need to go to, for example, PayPal to change my password, they will not allow it unless I can verify my identity via a code they text to my phone. This is a serious security risk and I am shocked that ATT doesn't make it a high priority!

I thought I already posted the solution: all I had to do was the following:
1. In settings, turn off wifi
2. Request a verification code as a test
This worked, no problem!
3. Turn wifi back on.

This happens if the number Port is not complete, or if the phone number is seen as a virtual number not a real number. Since it sounds like it worked with a previous carrier it's more likely the port hasn't been done correctly.

I recall I posted a link to a highly rated solution to this issue in Apple's discussion forum, but now I don't see it (my post)!?!

I'm having this same issue. We had a massive power outage on 11/27 that also knocked out all ceel service. It also took out my visual voicemail (now resolved) and my mobile data is super slow (somewhat resolved). However, while I still got some short number texts after cell service came back, the last short number text I received was on 11/30. AT&T fixed my visual voicemail on 12/1 but it looks like that screwed up my short number texts (or something else did. I have reset my network settings, called AT&T and rebooted my phone numerous times.
This is causing massive issues due me not being able to get onto other accounts such as PayPal since I can't get the verification texts and not getting texts from my banks when charged are made to my cards or withdrawals from my accounts. The lady time this happened (different carrier) I had over $800 in 7 different back to back fraudulent charges before the dark managed to alert me. If I'd gotten even the first of would have saved me a huge headache.
