Mobile hotspot over wifi

My car has wifi capability. I want to turn my phone into a mobile hotspot and connect my car's wifi to it. My question is will that connection work regardless of whether my phone is on a cell or wifi connection?

Why do you want to connect your vehicle to your phone hotspot? To do what? The reason your vehicle has WiFi is to act as a hotspot itself. In any event, your phone can’t be connected to WiFi and be a hotspot at the same time. When your hotspot is on, the phone’s WiFi is for other devices to connect to it. Phone calls do not disrupt that.

@sandblaster because my car has a simple wifi UI. It allows me to enter a password, and that is it. If a wifi asks for a username or is one of the ones you have to click an acknowledgement to agree to the terms of use, there is no way to do it. Plus my phone can switch from wifi to cell and back as needed. I can tether my car to my phone and it will stay connected while I travel around, andmy phone switches connections.

Again, for what purpose do you want to connect the car to the hotspot? To do what? My car also has WiFi, it only gets used for software updates and I use my home WiFi for that. Connecting it to my phone hotspot wouldn’t give me anything. I tether my phone to the car via Bluetooth. That gives me hands free calling and access to phone apps. Normally, you connect a phone to the car via Bluetooth, not WiFi.

Let's just say I have my reasons which you may or may not agree with. If I understand what you are saying, if my phone is running as a hotspot while connected to a cell tower, and then automatically switches to a wifi signal, the hotspot will drop. Is this correct?

If you are using your phone as a hotspot, it will stay a hotspot even if the phone connects to wifi.
