Is AT&T planning on adding the mobile hotspot feature/tethering to phones on Unlimited Plan soon?
Does anyone know if AT&T is planning on adding the mobile hotspot/tethering feature to devices on the Unlimited Plan anytime soon?

I haven't heard anything and I would set the expectation that it may not happen.

I figure AT&T customer service reps are getting inundated with the same question about this feature over and over. I can see where they employees are probably as much frustrated as the customers of not knowing. Hopefully AT&T makes an official statement soon on whether they plan on enabiling this feature soon or not. With a lot of competitors offering contract buyouts or people out of contract it seems like AT&T could drive an extensive amount of customers away by remaining silent on this issue.

They've (basically) already made a statement: They made the plan avaialble to all and did not enable the feature.
They aren't going to issue a press release that says "we are not going to add this feature to our plan". They don't make statements like that. You make statements that state what you do offer (not what you don't).
You seem to think everyone wants unlimited. I gave up my unlimited last year, I prefer the $avings and that I can tether.
Even if AT&T added tethering, it'd still cost me more than I'm using now (and basically I pay for an extra 10GB so I can tether), the only way I'd need more data would be to tether more and if they followed suit and capped at 10GB, that wouldn't help me anyways.

I know that the hotspot option isn't something "everyone" wants, but where I live it's not a want but a need. Many rural parts of West Virginia don't even have access to DSL or even dial-up. I know most people probably laugh because most areas of the country now have fiber, cable or some other sort of broadband internet available. Even with wireless carriers there are a lot of dead zones in this state where there's no coverage at all. It's just one of those types of situations where if you are lucky enough to have 3G, 4G or LTE available in your area that it would be very beneficial to have access to the Internet from another device besides a mobile phone. Trust me, if my family or other residents in the area had access to a landline type internet, we would care less about the hotspot/tethering capability. I think it's a common misconception from people in different socio-economic statuses or geographic areas. They assume those less fortunate have the same available opportunities or options as everyone else.

This is ONLY for RURAL customers in certain markets. Everyone who wants to replace wired home internet with cellular will need to seek other alternatives.

@Looking4Deal 10GB wouldn't be very much to have for home internet.
Have you seen this?

While the rollout is limited in the locations, they do offer the older packages still. Which are a tenth of the size, but 50GB for $100 is still a pretty good price. (Obviously, ten times the data for the same price is a better deal).
