iPhone 12, 5G extremely slow network speed

Hello,

Back in October, I recently upgraded to the new iPhone 12 and quickly enrolled in the 5G Unlimited Top Plan. It was simply spectacular. I was seeing speeds of over 100MPBS down. I work from my phone most of the time and it is highly required that I have fast speeds for necessary hotspot, video conferencing, etc. I also do tend to game on my phone as well.

Unfortunately, over the past month, my speeds have been throttled back/diminished. I am now receiving on average 2-4MPBS down at both home and at work 30 miles away. I checked my data and I am nowhere near the soft data cap of 100GB before speeds decreased.

I have reached out to Customer Service and spoken to 7, SEVEN different customer reps who have not been able to assist me. Steps include reset network settings, turn off phone and turn back on, and then try again. Still the same. 2-4MPBS down. I have never had ANY issue with this. But no-one can seem to help me correct this.

This is not the service I am paying so much for. And customer support seems like they cannot do anything to assist me. I should note one said he would file a ticket and I would receive a phone call back. Never did.

I need some help.

You aren’t likely to get any help. Speeds were great at first probably because not many users. The 5G network now has many more users, hence slower speeds. ATT is still building out the 5G network. Until more bandwidth is added to 5G, you aren’t likely to see any improvement. There really isn’t anything customer support can do for you. You just have to wait.

sandblaster, thank you for your reply.

While I appreciate the answer, multiple others who are sitting in my general work area are getting 40+mpbs through their ATT service and I am getting 2-4MBPS.

Even my wife at home is getting 40 down and I am getting 2.

So something doesn't correlate.

That additional info would have helped. You’re right, something doesn’t correlate if others are getting better speeds. Try swapping SIM cards with your wife’s phone to see if the problem moves with the SIM card.

Let's look into a resolution for you, @innomine3!

We want to advise that if your network download speed improves after swapping your device's SIM card with that of your wife's phone you may want to visit your nearest AT&T Store to obtain a replacement.

Let us know how it goes and whether, as @GLIMMERMAN76 inquired, this experience is a usual occurrence with regular use of the phone or when using certain features like Hotspot!

I have the same issue with my iPhone 8 Plus using AT&T Fiber Cable with an Ariss BGW210 modem. My laptop is blazing but all of our iPhones are basically unusable on our home WIFI due to the sluggish connection. We have called AT&T several times without improvement. So frustrating.

I’m having similar issues as innomine3, and it’s not improved in the 11 months since I got the new phone. 5G service (with 2 of 4 bars) seems to be either significantly slower than the old 4G or doesn’t work at all, in this more rural area. Turning 5G off does not help, and I’ve had similar experiences with tech support asking me to reset network settings, erase things and restart phone, etc.  At this point I’d pay to go back to the way things were.  Fully exasperated.

I have the same issue,  though mine iPhone 13 pro only have 1.4mps, and the att cannot do anything to change it, shall we have a (Edited per community guidelines) to AT&T since we pay the service that they promised 5g high speed internet has never been true?
