How to Set a Per-Device Monthly Data Limit
I have a 15GB Mobile Share Value plan with 5 devices. I want to set a monthly data limit (quota) of 5GB on one of those devices. I signed up for SmartLimits but that doesn't actually seem too offer that capability; while it allows for data usage "alerts" based on a monthly limit, if it won't also automatically turn off cellular data once that limit is reached. I understand I can *manually* monitor usage and *manually* turn cellular data on/off per device but that is what i am trying to avoid. Verizon offers this exact feature with the FamilyBase Usage Controls so clearly it's possible...

There is no automatic way to do this except on android phones, which the user can of course over ride.
I taught my kids how to read their data usage and told them what the cap was. When they reached the cap, I turned their data off. Once or twice going without data is usually enough to reign in a data hog.

That is very disappointing. I can't really understand why AT&T would not offer this (and I think they used to in the past, right??) except to make it harder for people to stay within their allotted data.

Monitoring his/her own data and staying within a budget Is a life lesson the user needs to learn. It will apply to a checking account and his or her own data plan down the road. It's a teaching moment and you won't get many more. Go for it, the kid might surprise you.

@Fizzle22 You'll have to do it yourself, sorry.
Check it every 6 days, if they've gone over the 1GB limit for those 6 days, shut them down 1 day for each 100MB overage, they'll learn real fast how to watch their data.... (100MB is more than 1/6th of the usage, but explain that overages / bounced checks get "taxed" with "late fees"!).
