How to group text more than 10 on AT&T
Learn what devices support Advance Messaging
The Wait is over! Through 2021, AT&T is continuing to increasing the number of people you can group text. It is slowly being rolled out and tested on many devices. Check out David T's Advance Messaging page for more information regarding group messaging and the new features to come.
***********Information below is still valid for some devices until the update is pushed to it.***********
***********We do not know when your device will support group messaging but it is coming.***********
Why Are There Limits?
AT&T has implemented a limit to the number of group message participants as a way to protect our customers from spam and/or malicious software. AT&T is vigilant about protecting you, our customers, from unsolicited text message spam.
Is AT&T Going To Update The Limit?
Some devices have the ability to send group messages with up to 30 contacts. More updates are coming to increase that number but I do not have any information when a change will take place. Last updated 2/23/2021.
If spam messages have affected you, you can report them by:
- Forwarding a copy of the SMS and MMS spam to short code 7726 (SPAM).
- You are not charged for forwarding the spam message to 7726.

Every year when my 12-person fantasy football league gets into gear this issue rears its ugly head. I can't believe it still hasn't been corrected. It's also come in to play at other times during the year when trying to plan group outings, coordinating kids sports activities, and so forth. It's reached the point where it's no longer tolerable. It's beyond inconvenient, it's just annoying and stupid.
I'm a Network Admin for a billion dollar company and I can tell you this is a lack of execution on AT&T's part - there's no reason they can't up the limit. I'm in need of a new phone right now and very likely I'll finally be switching to another carrier, after having been with AT&T for 15-20 years now. Sad, because in general I haven't had any other major complaints with them. Something so trivial is going to end up costing them a lot more in the long run. I guess some people have to learn the hard way.

This is unacceptable and a rather lousy answer from AT&T. Paying customers are requesting a solution and it is incredibly disappointing that our concerns are seemingly ignored. I am not receiving important messages in a group chat since it simply cuts off after a certain number. Nor did I ever receive notice of this limit. A 10 person limit is highly inconvenient for many people and is driving many customers away.

If AT&T is so worried about their customers - allow your customers the opportunity to set their own group msg limits!!! Lack of attention to this matter demonstrates customer protection is NOT the real reason for this action - please reconsider!!!

Our Bible study group has at least 12 members in a group text, which includes T-Mobile and Verizon. We are the odd ones out because of this limit which messes up the conversation. Please increase the default limit and consider making this limit customizable per each customer's account. If limited data accounts are a concern, it should be up to the user to opt-in or opt-out of being able to send group texts and to how many people.

I don't think I am going to be saying anything that anyone else hasn't said but, there is a difference in allowing the limit to be at 20-40 people instead of 10. Most groups and organizations, such as sports teams, have over 10 members. Spam will hit the masses as a 1,000 - ++ hit not under 50. If the limit is moved to 50, then see how many complaints you get! This effects so many people that it would benefit the company and name of the company to do this very soon.

I do not get how having a recipient maximum on group texts protect us from spam. If you are included in a group text, spam or not, you will receive any and all replies in that thread.
I was recently added into a group text of 16 people (confirmed by the individual that created the group). Each time someone would reply, I would get a separate text thread(including a random mix of 10/16 people in that group). I ended up having 14 separate text threads instead of having one thread. It is very troublesome having to go into each separate thread and piece together who texted first and to what was first said first in order to form a cohesive conversation.
In this instance, I would have liked to read and reply in one single thread. IF I had not enjoyed this text thread, there would not have been a way to even mute the conversation fully due to the replies from each individual person creating a separate text thread with different people in each thread.

Well this limit should be opt-out, or there should at least be an upgrade to remove the limit altogether accepting all risks.

It has been 6 months, any new ideas when/if this issue will be fixed? I don't want to renew my contract if there is no tentative date for this silly issue to be resolved.
