How to group text more than 10 on AT&T
Learn what devices support Advance Messaging
The Wait is over! Through 2021, AT&T is continuing to increasing the number of people you can group text. It is slowly being rolled out and tested on many devices. Check out David T's Advance Messaging page for more information regarding group messaging and the new features to come.
***********Information below is still valid for some devices until the update is pushed to it.***********
***********We do not know when your device will support group messaging but it is coming.***********
Why Are There Limits?
AT&T has implemented a limit to the number of group message participants as a way to protect our customers from spam and/or malicious software. AT&T is vigilant about protecting you, our customers, from unsolicited text message spam.
Is AT&T Going To Update The Limit?
Some devices have the ability to send group messages with up to 30 contacts. More updates are coming to increase that number but I do not have any information when a change will take place. Last updated 2/23/2021.
If spam messages have affected you, you can report them by:
- Forwarding a copy of the SMS and MMS spam to short code 7726 (SPAM).
- You are not charged for forwarding the spam message to 7726.

The reasoning about protecting subscribers from spam is ridiculous. I still get the text message if it is sent to more than ten recipients. However, I cannot respond to more than ten recipients. So the limitation does not meet the objective and causes customers a major annoyance, so much so that I know many people that have left AT&T and gone to other providers.

I know I am beating a dead horse however, we are a world of technology and for ATT to be the only company to have a ten group text limit is hard to accept. I coach two teams and have a group of umpires with more than 10 and this makes communication difficult. We NEED more than ten on a group. Even if you went to 20 that would be great and fix alot of the issues with 90 percent of your texting customers. REALLY ATT get up to date on this stuff. Its sad that I want to switch back so that my text can reach my teams.

I read why there is a limit- it does'nt hold weight. I have five phones on my plan and a family with many members. We just had a event where we had to set up multiple groups to communicate - ridiculous - because we are ATT customers and have been for at least 15 years. However most of our family is Verizon.... they do not have this problem. It comes up again and again. while you are looking into it and weighing your options- I'm looking into another carrier. Odds are- I find a solution first.

Just so you know, most carriers have a limit. Verizon just has a higher one. So that’s kind of your option if this is the deal breaker for you.

Moving my business plan with 18 phones to Verizon. We can’t communicate as a team utilizing the most efficient way of doing so. Too bad, the price was right.

This is ridiculous. If I'd known this before switching to AT&T, I wouldn't have switched. After doing some internet searches, I've seen an OVERWHELMING number of people complaining about this "feature", yet AT&T hasn't changed it.
Listen to your customers. Remove the limit.
And in the meantime, I'm telling EVERYONE who asks me how I like AT&T about this issue and suggesting that they avoid this carrier.

Same problem. Can't keep management informed of issues with a flying spacecraft...
The users with Verizon phones can though...
Can you say simple solution -> Switch carriers.

I help coach my son’s baseball team. With 11 on the team, I can only communicate with one parent and can’t include my wife on the strand. This has caused the team to run into issues where game updates have been missed and no easy way to quickly communicate. This is unacceptable.

I was at my Niece's wedding the other day. My sister sent a message to a large group. I ended up with 9 different threads. Trying to read the messages in order and make sense of them was impossible. Then when I replied on one of the threads, only 10 received it and as a second thread. Extremely annoying.

10 recipients is not enough. This is a major headache for my social group with 13 members. Please increase the limit.

It's been 4 months since the last post on this issue. Any updates? Not being able to send out group texts to more than 10 people at a time is really limiting and frustrating. Please remove the restriction.

I find this policy COMPLETELY out of touch with the consumer sentiment. Try doing even a little bit of market research and you will see how antiquated this policy is.
