How to group text more than 10 on AT&T

Learn what devices support Advance Messaging

_GroupMessageLimit_.png

The Wait is over! Through 2021, AT&T is continuing to increasing the number of people you can group text. It is slowly being rolled out and tested on many devices. Check out David T's  Advance Messaging page for more information regarding group messaging and the new features to come.

***********Information below is still valid for some devices until the update is pushed to it.***********

***********We do not know when your device will support group messaging but it is coming.***********

 Why Are There Limits?

AT&T has implemented a limit to the number of group message participants as a way to protect our customers from spam and/or malicious software. AT&T is vigilant about protecting you, our customers, from unsolicited text message spam.

Is AT&T Going To Update The Limit?

Some devices have the ability to send group messages with up to 30 contacts. More updates are coming to increase that number but I do not have any information when a change will take place. Last updated 2/23/2021.

If spam messages have affected you, you can report them by:

  • Forwarding a copy of the SMS and MMS spam to short code 7726 (SPAM).
  • You are not charged for forwarding the spam message to 7726.

forget it ... i was an ATT customer for 20 years and i switch to Tmo.
Couldnt be happier. They monitor these boards and they know the problem.
They just don't care. I sold all my ATT stocks and moved on. Tmo will put
you through to a representative ( not a bot ) in 2 clicks. They rounded
their price to an even number which is nice. 4 lines cost 160 even. I get a
corporate discount and it is 140 even. Unlimited data. ATT is a dying
dinosaur. My family alone is more than 10 people ... the policy is
absolutely ridiculous.. but they just don't care ...

too late ... it is 2019 and now you are resolving it ? Many people already left ... you will need to do much better to get people to come back

This is not a solution, AT&T. First off, I shouldn't have to download a messenger app in order to be able to talk to more than 10 people. Secondly, how is this a solution when it's only available to AT&T consumers? This wouldn't even be a "thing" or an "issue" if I were able to text more than 10 people at a time, period. And so you know, pretty much all of those I want to text in a large group are NOT AT&T customers. This MIIIIIGHT be a solved problem if it weren't only open to AT&T customers, however, it's not. So nothing really got resolved. Maybe I too, like many others, should find another provider. Good grief. I guess this company only hires the best of the best to work here because this "solution" is brilliant (said in my most sarcastic tone 🙄). Get your poop in a group and figure it out. I can get the contact info for someone at Verizon or Sprint so that someone with AT&T can have guidance and no one has to re-invent the wheel if you'd like?

To the AT&T Community Forum: Your 11/1/19 message in the header indicates the group text limit is going way. But that you can't say when or to what devices.

How will we as individual users know when it is available???

This is just another stall tactic on AT&T's part. They either have no plans to resolve this issue or just don't know how to resolve it. If you look at the top of the message it shows that it was first posted Feb 5th 2018 then edited (reposted) Nov 1 2019. That's a year and 11 months since they first posted the announcement that the fix is being SLOWLY pushed out. Sounds to me like that would be more than enough time for a major provider to have an issue resolved if it really wanted to. Just sayin!

This issue is not "Solved!"

I have been with AT&T for several years now, and they are totally ignoring their own customers on fixing this issue. A simple solution is to raise the limitation to 30 or 50.

Today is Thanksgiving, and even typing this very message out, I am getting texts from a group of family and friends of 12 people who are texting back and forth to each other, yet I can NOT even respond because of this limitation.

I am part if various Bible studies groups, and even host, that use SMS  messages to communicate back and forth, yet I can not respond.

Like I said, AT&T is ignoring us!  They've been ignoring us for years regarding this issue.

Why?

Because it doesn't affect their bottom line. There are more customers who this limitation doesn't affect and they don't care.

This is stupid. I'm not able to text back to everyone in my family and have to make a choice on who to delete before I can send a reply.

Two more months and I will be free from this limitation. Verizon will be happy to have me as a customer.

Been holding off changing to another company in hopes that AT&T would change their texting policy. Evidently it is not going to happen. I am starting to actively search for another company. Sick of this crap. I have to send 3 texts to get everyone in.

I tried to text 11 participants in my building - we stay connected if the water is getting turned off etc. The 11th one is new and apparently I can't do this. I hope this policy is changed soon, I'm renewing my phone and will need to choose another provider.

It's 2020 and I am forked out a small fortune for my note 20 plus, yet I am still being limited to 10  group messages! I have a large group of bffs and they are very frustrated with me because WHEN I join in the group chats I cause the message to split to each person individually. This has got to stop! I never would have switched from Verizon or from iPhone if I had known. I feel totally scammed by At&t!
