Hotspot only works unsecured

Trying to use my ATT hotspot while out of town and can only connect using option for no security. Have rebooted both my laptop and phone multiple times, but my laptop only says "Can't connect to this network". I've used only 0.5GB of 15 GB for the month, so it's not that. I'm also typing the correct password in as well   Wondering if anyone has an idea what might be causing this problem.

Good morning @wrneuhart, we know how vital it is to stay connected, and we're here to help!

Could you tell us the model of your hotspot device? This will help us look into what may be the cause.

In the meantime, you may check out this article on AT&T Hotspots to find some info which may be useful in troubleshooting, including a coverage map.

We look forward to hearing from you!

It's a Motorola 5G Ace model phone. It has worked in the past. I'm using a Microsoft Surface 3 to connect with it. All updates on both have been installed. It can connect, just unsecured (not something I'll do, but tested it against the other possible options, which are WPA3/Personal, WPA2/Personal, WPA2/WPA-3 - Personal). None of those worked. Thanks!

Thanks. It may be helpful also to check your device's Mobile Hotspot settings to confirm the password is correct:

1. Swipe down from the Notification bar with two fingers, then select the Settings icon Settings icon.
2. Select Network & internet, then select Hotspot & tethering
3. Select Wi-Fi hotspot.
4. Select Hotspot Password to view or change the Password of the Mobile Hotspot network.

Please let us know if this helps so we can look into this further!

I've checked the password and it's the right one.

Hi wrneuhart, we want to help with you connect your Motorola 5G Ace device to your Microsoft Surface 3 device using your mobile hotspot!

Try turning airplane mode on/off to reset your device and make sure your Wi-Fi is off on your Motorola 5G Ace device. Connect your mobile hotspot to another device, so we can pinpoint the area of concern.

Run a diagnostic test to help fix your mobile hotspot concern. You'll need to pick your device make & mode, navigate to Fix my wireless>Connection>Internet or sign in to get personalized help.

If this does not help, reach out to Microsoft for additional help with your mobile hotspot connectivity concern.

We hope this helps! Thank you for reaching out to AT&T Community Forums!
