Finally decided to get my first Smartphone, but I'm a little confused.
Hi
I have a few questions about the plan options and phone features. I'm sure they'll sound silly, but like I said, it's my first Smartphone.
1) Is email charged as part of the Data Plan or the Messaging Plan?
2) Do all Smartphone Data Plans include unlimited access to AT&T Wifi HotSpots?
3) It's my understanding that if I connect to the internet via an AT&T Wifi HotSpot or any other WiFi, it does not count as part of my data usage. Do I have to "turn off" the data plan before connecting to WiFi or does connecting to WiFi automatically stop data plan usage?
4) I don't need unlimited Text Messaging because I don't send/receive a lot of them, but the only choices listed for a messaging plan are "Unlimited" and "None". If I choose "None" does that mean I can't use text messaging at all or does it mean I will automatically be charged on a pay-per-use basis? If it is pay-per-use, then what are the rates?
Thanks! Sorry for being such a noob, LOL

1. Email counts against the data plan.
2. I'm not totally sure but I believe the answer is yes.
3. Anytime you are connected to wifi, your phone will use wifi and will not use your data plan. Be advised, though, there may be some apps or phone features that will always use cellular data whether you are connected to wifi or not. For example, visual voice mail on the iphone only uses cellular data.
4. If you chose none, you will automatically be charged on the pay-per-use basis. I believe the current rate is $0.20 per message, whether sent or received.

sandblaster nailed it and no apologies necessary, this is exactly why we're here!
As for the hotspots, yes you can use them!
Here's a map to find hotspots near you: http://www.att.com/maps/wifi.html#fbid=puI4inameCW
Here's a quick video that shows you how to connect to an AT&T HotSpot: http://www.att.com/cctp_tour/flash_freedomlink/index.html
