Family Unlimited Plus - Tethering
Hey guys,
I recently gave up my 2 grandfathered unlimited lines and switched to the new unlimited plus plan. Besides being a little cheaper I was interested in trying out the monthly 10gb tethering feature. I currently have a iPhone 7 Plus and when I go into the settings to set up a mobile hotspot it produces the generic message stating that I need to call AT&T or visit the website(presumably to enroll in a tethering plan) and does not allow me to do anything else. Since I know that tethering is allowed on my plan. Am I missing a step on my handset? Is there a setting through my online account that I need to change? Hopefully someone can help because I hate calling Customer Support unless it's the only choice. I hate having to spend an hour or more on hold. Thanks.

You should not have to do anything. Maybe your phone hasn't re-authorized to the network since changing your plan. Try either rebooting the phone or reset network settings.

Calling 611 should not take more than 10 minutes.

@gameraddikted If powering the phone off doesn't work, when you call AT&T verify that they have the correct IMEI number for your phone. I've had some features not work on my iPhone (while everything else was great) due to that issue.

@lizdance40 You're absolutely right it shouldn't, however the last time I had that little of a wait was years ago. For instance two days ago a call in to customer care took me 52 mins just to activate a sim and give them an IMEI for my son's phone.

Most functions do not require contacting ATT. Like your example of activating a SIM card. That can be done online.
