Does att charge for wifi calling?
Hi I am a student at SGU on the island of Grenada, which att does not cover with there international plan, however could i use the wifi call/text fuction in the iphone to call/text and receive calls/texts form the us? It looks like it might work without adding extra charges to the account. but I would rather be certain before I go running up a fat bill.
Thanks

Hello Community, we'd be happy to answer your Wi-Fi calling inquiries!
What the ACE member stated is correct regarding the requirements:
You will be able to use Wi-Fi calling in areas of little to no AT&T signal and will be able to make calls as well as text to the U.S/ Puerto Rico, or United States Virgin Islands without using up the calling plan minutes. This also applies when travelling abroad and calling a U.S number.
To turn on Wi-Fi calling:
To learn more about staying connected with Wi-Fi calling, this article highlights how to check if you're using Wi-Fi calling:
Just a heads up: Apple devices will show AT&T Wi-Fi, Android devices will have a plus sign (+), you'll also see a Wi-Fi icon on the “Start call” and “End call” buttons and on the “Active Call” status icon.
Calls made to premium numbers such as 411 are billed as standard premium rates. Wi-Fi calling doesn't support calls to 211,311,511, and 811. Messaging services (MMS/SMS) over Wi-Fi pull from the customer's messaging plan.
Lastly, where there is a strong AT&T Cellular signal and strong Wi-Fi signal, the phone defaults back to the cellular network.

If you do have postpaid service and a wifi calling supported phone, there is no charge for wifi calling. Yes, you will be able to call and text to the US with no roaming charges.

If you are not a subscriber of AT&T postpaid service, AT&T wifi calling will not work for you.
You can use 3rd party text service like Whatsapp with wifi to do voice call, video call and text with other Whatsapp users worldwide for free.

If I am on an unlimited plan with AT&T for my iPhone does wifi cost more for my iPad? When I looked on my iPad it said upgrade to WiFi calling. If I click that, will the bill go up? I live in the US and only call US

@Baaarb Your question makes no sense to me. iPads are data only devices as far as the cellular network is concerned, I’ve never heard of an iPad having WiFi calling. WiFi calling means you connect to ATT’s cellular voice network over WiFi instead of through a cell tower. Since the iPad is already on WiFi, there is no requirement to connect to the cellular network. What is this “upgrade to WiFi calling” you are seeing on your iPad and where are you seeing it?

On my iPad looking where you are on yours between FaceTime and Apple ID there is a “Calls from IPhone” if you click on that, you see the upgrade as in the picture I posted

I have setup this on my WiFi only IPad and when on it if my iPhone rings, can answer the phone or make calls. You can setup number sync between the iPhone and iPad
