Delays & Bouncebanks using AT&T email-to-text

Hello, over the years we've sometimes sent out emergency communications via this service (i.e [email scrubbed]) to a small group of employees that all have AT&T iphones.  Historically the messages are received within seconds.  We sent messages on two different days in December 2021 and there was a problem on both occasions:  1) some messages were received anywhere from 24 hours to over 72 hours later; 2) some eventually returned a bounceback error message:  "There was a problem delivering your message to [email scrubbed].  See the technical details below.  The response was: write error: FAILED_PRECONDITION: write error (0): error".  I've sent a TEST text today which was received in 7 minutes, which is certainly better but leaves us with the sense that the service has become unreliable.  We are wondering if AT&T has retired this functionality - or if there was a specific problem that has or will be resolved.  Thanks very much.

Hello @,

Thank you for reaching out to us. We definitely understand how some of your employees not being able to receive these email-to-text messages can be concerning. Please have the AT&T users that aren't receiving these email-to-text messages contact us for further assistance and we'll be more than happy to take a closer look.

Sean,

I'm also one of the 30+ AT&T users whose cell is on the distribution list for the email-to-text messages.  With that said, is there any further information you would like before we take a closer look?

We understand the importance of being able to use email-to-SMS @jlabadie.

Reasons for receiving a Non-delivery Error:

  • The sending system may be attempting to connect too often. Like most service providers, we limit the number of connections any one sender can make.
  • Connection attempts that are made too frequently in a given period of time result in the error message.
  • Periods of transient heavy traffic on our mail servers can also result in delays and the non-delivery error.

If you feel if your Email is being blocked by AT&T you can reach out for Postmaster Help. This is the team that would be able to assist further with this service not working as expected for you.

We hope this helps! Thank you for contacting AT&T Community Forums.

I've also been unsuccessful in sending messages via email. For weeks.

There was a temporary problem delivering your message to [email scrubbed]. Gmail will retry for 19 more hours. You'll be notified if the delivery fails permanently.

The response from the remote server was:

452 4.1.1 <[email scrubbed]> requested action aborted: try again later

Hey there @kev_in, thanks for updating us and letting us know that you're having the same concerns with using your email to text.

We'd like to gather more information from you to better help:

  • What's the make and model of the device you're using? This will help us provide device specific troubleshooting steps for fixing your concern.
  • Have you tried resetting your device and/or network settings?
  • Have you confirmed that you currently have service and your device is connected with cellular data or WIFI?

Please reach back out and let us know, so that we can continue to help!

Thank you.

Hi! I'm using a generic Windows 10 PC logged into Gmail to try to send the message to a mobile user. Since I'm logged in to Gmail and browsing the web I can confidently say yes, I'm currently connected. Gmail is also receiving a "go away" message from AT&T servers, so I know it's reaching the network. :)

Thanks for your response, @kev_in.

At this time, we'd definitely advise for you to reach out to Gmail directly as this isn't a AT&T device concern and may be effecting you from their end.

We hope your able to get this resolved!

@kev_in, were you able to solve your problem?  Were you able to get in touch with anyone at Gmail/Google?  I'm in the same boat and been so for almost a year...

I didn't try to get in touch with them and the problem magically resolved itself.
