data problems in Mexico

@SpartanKid I do have the option to select a carrier but that is something on your account that must be enabled. You need to call and request they enable that option on your account.

@gnrkeiffer ATT Mexico is a separate company from ATT here in the US. So when you say ATT is selling their service in Mexico, that is ATT Mexico, not ATT. For what it’s worth, my data speeds when connected to ATT Mexico have usually been acceptable if not downright good. I was in Cabo last June and data speeds were fine.

You aren’t really connected to ATT’s network, even if it says ATT Mexico. You are still roaming and subject to whatever conditions are imposed on roaming by that carrier which could include reduced data speeds. See if you have the option of selecting what carrier you connect to. If you do, try a different carrier.

Is there a way to connect to ATT's network in Mexico? I would think that's part of the benefit of having AT&T, is that you have your own network here. Also, how do I switch to different carrier on iPhone? Thanks for your help

Currently, there is no way to connect to the AT&T network outside of the U.S. AT&T has agreements with other wireless carriers in Mexico and Canada that allows you to use wireless service outside of AT&T-owned and operated wireless network.

One action that may help resolve your cellular network trend is to refresh your connection to the network by powering your device off for several seconds then back on.

Same for me. I switched to ATT because I travel to Mexico often and it's included but it's so slow it's hardly useable. I previously had t-mobile and my service in Mexico was incredible so it's a big disappoitment it's so terrible with ATT. I have tried it both around Mexico City and Playa Del Carmen and in both places my data speeds are painfully slow. 

Also having problems with this, 3x att techs tried over the phone to no avail, ATT tech in the forum's extremely unhelpful and refer to their "helper trolls" yes I'm talking to you lot in here with your robot answers and lack of empathic responses. Extremely terrible customer service, I have worked in CS and will be reporting ATT to the BBB and leaving the service as it does NOT work. 

Read on Reddit from many users with prepaid and postpaid that had great success with ATT speeda in Mexico. No excuses for this pardoned CS.

Better to get a local telcel plan, it works excellent. $30 10GB data, 4G. Unlimited social media use. 

Prove me wrong ATT, or refund the past 2 weeks that I have been unable to use my data for work.

Wayfinders - I'm on board with you. I just spent three hours in chat with the support who basically just had me restart my phone 10 times to no avail and then switched me to a manger who just assurred me everything would be better in a few hours then exited the chat

This makes no sense that AT&T says they have no network of their own and are at the mercy of other carriers in Mexico. They are selling their service in Mexico, advertise widely, have stores all over the place in CDMX. There's no way people who live here would put up with these slow data speeds. 

I used to have t-mobile and my iPhone had an option to switch between towers or carriers when roaming. This solved my slow data speeds in Mexico with them. The iPhone would automatically connect to a Movistar tower because it had the strongest signal but Movistar data speeds are slow. When I force changed it to go to the Telcel tower my data got much faster even though the signal appeared weaker. I no longer have this option now that I’m with att.
