Can't receive text messages

I have an iphone 7 plus.  I can send and receive text messages from/to phones.  I can't receive validation code texts from vendors when trying to update accounts.  This includes AT&T who sent me a validation code this morning (They sent me an  email telling me to expect it), but I have not received it.  Your help will be appreciated.

Hello @Cardel!

Welcome to the Community Forums! Not being able to receive the verification texts is concerning. This is definitely not typical. I am more than happy to help with this today!

Please open our great Troubleshoot & Resolve tool. For best results, Click Log in and sign into your myAT&T account. Select your phone’s make and model > Messaging > I can't send/receive messages (text, picture, or group) > Text > Cannot receive messages, and follow the remaining steps until the issue is resolved.

I’m glad I could help. Thank you and have a great rest of your Thursday.

Didn’t work.
I can, and always could, send and receive imessages. I can’t receive verification codes (SMS messages?) from various vendors.
I have an iphone 7 Plus and am on AT&T Prepaid plan. I understand that some services are not available with the prepaid plan. Could this be the problem?
Any help will be appreciated.

Hello @Cardel!

Thank you for trying the page! Even though the phone is prepaid, it should still receive these text messages. I would like to look into this further to get the issue resolved.

Please send me a private message to @ATTCares with your full name, wireless number, account number, an alternate callback number, and the best time to call. If you would prefer to chat instead of a phone call please let me know.

I look forward to your response. Thank you and have a great rest of your day.

Is there an answer to this problem?  Because, I also cannot receive verification codes from Amazon, Netflix, etc...

I also have the same problem with 1 phone. Another "identical" phone is fine. AT&T, please figure out why the short codes/verification codes/businesses messages are not going through to specific accounts. I have a really hard time believing the issue is a hardware issue on the phones. Many people have reported this issue and you need to figure out what the problem is and post a solution for your support staff to help us.

I just got off a chat with a representative who had me reset the network settings on my phone:Open Settings, search for "Reset Network Settings". In the results, click Reset network settings. It wipes out any wifi, bluetooth pairings, etc., but after I did it I was able to receive a code from a business that I hadn't been able to before. I don't know if he did any kind of reset on his end, but my issue seems to have been resolved. I will try other businesses when I can. I hope this is something you haven't tried yet and it works for you.

This is an ongoing issue they are unable to resolve. After dozens of hours on the phone with customer service and technical representatives and weeks waiting for resolution, I finally gave up and switched to Verizon. Now, I can receive sms “short codes.” I searched the Internet looking for anyone who was helped by AT&T to resolve this issue and found complaints going back to 2015, but no one who got a fix from AT&T. It’s a sad commentary about the level of skill of AT&T techs. My guess is they’ve farmed out their technical department to China or some other country with technicians with subpar skill sets.

So after you switched to Verizon your phone worked fine?? I’m in the same situation right now and it’s messing up my business.
