Block the 1-410-100 messages

I am getting text messages from 1-410-100 and I can't block them because the last digit of the number is different. They are from an att phone to an att phone  from att. From you. How can I stop this. I forwarded them to your spam number 7726. If I have to change phone numbers I will but it won't be thru att.

I did two things, and so far it's working (only 24 hours later, but still):

1) Bought WideProtect for my iPhone ($3), blocked numbers starting with
+1410100 (No Country Code)
+1410200 (No Country Code)
+1 1410100 (US Country Code)
+1 1410200 (US Country Code)
Turned on iCloud sharing, added 1410100 and 1410200 to the SMS section (this may not do anything, but I'm not removing it - couldn't hurt)

2) Created a Contact on my Macbook for the phone number 1410100 and 1410200 (you can use any name for the Contact - I used "Spam Texts" :) and then Blocked that caller on iMessage on my Macbook.

So far so good. WideProtect has been flawless for several days at stopping the texts, but they were still getting through on iMessage on my Macbook. Thus why I added Step 2 above. I haven't tried the SMS for ".shop/" and ".php" on WideProtect yet, but if my fix doesn't hold I'll add it to the mix. So far so good...

Also, AT&T has been nothing but unhelpful on this. You should see the ridiculous messages I got via online chat when I asked why 7726 does ZERO to stop these texts!

@TimPicks  Thank you.  I bought WideProtect and haven't gotten a single text from the 1410 numbers!  If there are problems later, I'll try the other things you did.

Nevermind on my last post - another message got through to my Macbook via iMessage. WideProtect blocked it on my phone though, so that's good. Still don't know how to keep my Macbook protected from this garbage.

Since moving our phones to ATT my family has been inundated with spam text messages. We are constantly forwarding them to 7726 and blocking the number but the problem just seems to be getting worse. What can be done? This was not a problem with our previous carrier.

Hi @, we know how annoying it can be to receive multiple spam texts.

You would want to continue to forward the spam texts to 7726 which helps us identify spammers and block them from our network.

Listed is some additional ways to protect yourself from spam texts.

To find out if your phone has a built-in feature to block calls and text messages:

1. Go to Device Support and select your phone.
2. Go to the search box at the beginning of the page and search by typing block.
3. Select the how-to article from the search results. If you don’t see steps to take for your phone, contact the company that made your device for more help.

We hope this information helps, and thank you for reaching out to the AT&T Community Forum.

Im getting 7-10 of the 410-100 spams a day and now im getting them from 410-200  -what's the point of blocking them when like I block 410-100-054 (Always missing the last digit) so I block that and get another text from 410-100-055 etc.  I dont have time to be doing this all day  DO SOMETHING ATT- I know  ATT can block 410-100 and 200  Please DO!!

Hi @LordLeyton

From above I think you will find some solutions...

A. Some folks have had some luck with calling tech support and mentioning a certain solution to not allow email to sms messages.

B. I, and some others have had luck with a ~$3.00 app called wideprotect.

---

I went with solution B as I get "pages" from work sometimes and am not really sure if any "solution" which blocks email to sms might cause problems with those.

I agree with you, AT&T certainly has the capability to do more but seems this 410-100 and 410-200 has been kicking around for years with many customers in the same spot that you and I are.

I was also having problems with spoofers using my same area code and prefix, the solution I mentioned above also took care of that allowing wild card blocks on whole ranges of numbers.

I found that all of the 410-100, and 410-200 messages had a link with .shop and .php contained within, I used the app and those are now sent to junk automatically. Six so far in the last few days all handled automatically and invisibly to me.

So.... If you are having problems with people using a fake number like your own ( first 6 digit match )... the app is a great solution. If you are not getting blasted with scammer calls ( fake amazon, fake irs, fake card services ) then perhaps the solution mentioned in prior post to block the text messages might be the right one.

IMO if you need to waste 10 + minutes for help, probably the $3- app is a good value.. it was for me.

WideProtect is indeed working for me... but only on my iPhone. The messages still come through to iMessage on my Macbook. So until WideProtect builds a MacOS app, or AT&T decides to get off their butt and actually address a legitimate flaw in their service, I don't know how to get rid of these spam messages completely.

Frankly, I would put my money on a 3rd party developer fixing this before AT&T does, because after three+ years of these 1410 calls it's clear they either don't want to fix it, don't care, or don't know how.

Dearest at&t,

Why can't you block all text messages that:

1) Start with 1410 and are 10 digits in length?

2) Start with 410 and are nine digits in length?

I am sick and tired of getting these messages.  I've been reporting them to 7726 for WEEKS.  The pattern is clear and easy to stop.

FILTER THESE SMS MESSAGES OR TELL US HOW TO DO IT OURSELVES!

Thanks!

No, the pattern is not clear and easy to stop. Those 1-410 numbers indicate the texts are originating from email through the email to text gateway. The 1-410 number is assigned by the gateway. The actual sender is an email address and they constantly change. ATT won’t block them all simply because there are many legitimate users of email to text. If you want all texts from emails blocked, call ATT and request your number be blockedbut be aware that will block all texts from email including legitimate ones.

Can I get someone to filter these posts that pop up twice a week and say the same thing about texts from 1410xxxx?  If we can't get posters to search long enough to find the existing threads, why do we think it's so easy for the carriers to determine which texts are valid and which ones are not (especially without reading them, which would have every privacy advocate up in all kinds of arms).

> I would put my money on a 3rd party developer fixing this before AT&T does

As I heard, the dialer and SMS messaging apps require some type of certification (probably from some type of world organization, in which AT&T plays a huge role). There is no way some 3rd party dev will just waltz in and replace and amend these apps' functionality. It is a stalemate between phone vendors and communication standardization organizations. Perhaps that's why Apple is pushing for its own messaging platform.

I don't see why AT&T would need to be involved in this at all. WideProtect is a third party developer who built an app for iOS that blocks these spam messages on my phone entirely. If they ported it over to MacOS to filter them out of iMessage how is that any different, and why would AT&T need to be part of it?
