Block the 1-410-100 messages

I am getting text messages from 1-410-100 and I can't block them because the last digit of the number is different. They are from an att phone to an att phone  from att. From you. How can I stop this. I forwarded them to your spam number 7726. If I have to change phone numbers I will but it won't be thru att.

It is the end of 2021. And this problem still exists. Why AT&T allow spam from 1-401-100 to be sent?

I bet if somebody from a government would get "Let's go Brandon" from 1410200502: 100 detectives, 10 FBI agents, 3 federal presecutors, and 3 CNN reporters immediately jumped on it and "fixed" that.

AT&T's text spam problem is out of control and dramatically increasing.

Submitting spam reports to AT&T appears to do absolutely nothing.

Are you also having a problem with text spam? Maybe if enough people comment here AT&T will see how many of their customers are fed up and will do something about it.

Not likely. Try searching the forum, there are hundreds of threads about spam and scam texts. One more won’t make a difference. The problem is not unique to ATT, all carriers have the same problem. From my own perspective, the problem is not dramatically increasing. I get very few spam texts and those that I have reported don’t seem to recur. Maybe I’m just lucky but it’s not a big issue to me, just a minor annoyance.

I think for some it's increasing and for others (such as myself) it's more of an annoyance (like @sandblaster ) because I get very little. It may have something to do with who you use for your primary email or how much of your private info has been sold on the dark web. I kept my old email address when I changed providers and moved to another state and they seem to do an excellent job of stopping the spam that comes thru. I also have a couple of throwaway gmail accounts that gets very very little spam/scam.

The day I sign up for att, a week ago I have been getting calls and text messages non stop even with spam blocker. It’s not working. When I was with T-mobile I only had spam call maybe three time a month. I feel like this is on purpose and you guys are selling our information to these scammers.

I have been receiving spam texts with some frequency from:

1(410)100-xxx or 1(410)200-xxx

Why aren't these being blocked by AT&T ? Are there legitimate texts from this range ( with only 9 digits after the 1 prefix ) ?

Don't bother telling me to 7726 as I have done that 10x but there are 999 numbers available in each xxx above and not reasonable to expect customers to be patient through the whole range.

I have call protect which does not seem to help with this, looking for a solution to make this stop.

Thanks

Vince

Those numbers indicate the texts are coming from email addresses through the email to text gateway. Yes there are many legitimate uses for texts from email. It is not possible to block those 1-410 numbers. When you forward one of those texts to 7726 and report the number, ATT is able to determine the originating email address and block that email. Unfortunately, the scammers and spammers just use a different email address.

Almost everyone is getting those types of message. The point of origin changes everytime so it's almost impossible to filter them out. And being as most of them come from overseas, U.S. laws don't apply to them so legally forcing them to stop is extremely difficult if not just plain impossible. Most are computer generated so besides the original authoring of the message, there are essentially no humans involved unless you click on a link or call a number.

The only thing you can do is not respond to them and delete them as soon as possible.

Just turned off email-to-text, but to get to the tech support person in AT&T is a trick. Yes, keep "article 446389" card ready.

First, don't go to AT&T Store, they don't know how and have no capabilities to do such thing. The first person did not even attempt to help me -- I had to seek help from second and third person, that were less snobby. (Also, the first person could not even demonstrate how to forward message to 7726.)

Second, call 611. (BTW, the 611 did not work yesterday or this morning). They will teach to forward to 7726, but I was cutting them by saying truth (I forwarded already over 100 message) Stand your ground: goal is find a smart technical person that is willing to help.

P.S. Webchat at att.com is a big HTML joke: the agent on other end said they enabled protection, but in fact they did nothing. (That's why I went to AT&T Store)

So-called ACEs: by reading all your "smart" responses about receiving spam calls or texts, you look like a bunch of (Edited per community guidelines). People who have small kids at school, sick parents, or just waiting for a call or text from a job interview, just frustrated about the whole situation. Please help them. Is it what you are here for? I started getting these spam texts a couple weeks ago. I ignore them but they are annoying and I want them to stop. I was reporting them but they keep coming from a slightly altered 9-digit number, so I stopped reporting them. Please prevent them from getting through on my phone.

I have recently started receiving text messages from 10 digit numbers that are not phone numbers, or at least don't appear to be. The beginnings of them have all started with 1410 although the rest of the numbers diverge from there. I tried answering with STOP but those actually bounced back. These are texts with no apparent connection to any place I've ever dealt with and are not spoofed from known locations. An example of a number is 1410100021. That one offered me a Starbucks $100 with a link that I won't ever click on.

I cannot think of having done anything in recent days to suddenly start these annoying texts and I'm at a loss finding a way to stop them too.

Hi there ! We can point you in the right direction.

We understand how frustrating it is to get a text from a number that you do not know.

Over the past year, there has been increase of spam or what is called phishing text messages, across all carriers.

Let us provide some information about some things that you can do to prevent SMS and phishing texts.

  1. Forward the suspicious text to us at 7726. Messages forwarded to 7726 are free. They don't count toward your text plan. If you can’t see the number, forward the entire message to abuse@att.net.
  2. Report spam and fraud text to us.
  3. Send a suspicious text message to the Anti-Phishing Working Group at reportphishing@apwg.org, or report it to the FTC.
  4. Go to IdentityTheft.gov to learn more about this kind of criminal activity and how to stop it.

Also, we do have some mobile security apps at your disposal.  One of the biggest mobile security apps that we have is called AT&T Call Protect. This app is a great way to manage on or prevent these things from happing.  You can find out more about AT&T Call Protect, by clinking on the fore mentioned link.

We do hope that this helps! Please reply back here, if you have any questions or need further help.

Thank you for using the AT&T Community Forums

I understand the suggestions and thanks. My current issue is the inability on my part to get the cut and paste function working properly on my iPhone X. As son as I work out that issue I will at least be able to forward the annoying texts even if I cannot stop them.

Whatever happened to opt in instead of opt out?

You don’t need to cut and paste to forward a text on an iPhone. Select the text, then select more, than click the forward icon. Just FYI, those 1-410 numbers indicate the texts are coming from emails through the email to text gateway. The 1-410 number is assigned by the gateway. When you forward those texts to 7726 and respond with the 1-410 number, ATT should block the originating email address. Unfortunately, the spammers just keep using different email addresses.

Hello @patchelect10, let's look into why your cut and paste function isn't working properly.

You would want to make sure that you have the most recent software update to your device to ensure you have the latest features and device protection options.

If you continue to experience the cut and paste function not working properly. Use our Troubleshooting and Resolve Tool  by signing in for step-by-step help for your device.

When you're saying opt in instead of opt out. What exactly are you wanting to opt into?

Let us know if this information helps, and thank you for reaching out to the AT&T Community Forum

I managed to figure out the forwarding function, although I got a message "Thanks for reporting. Please reply with the sender phone number....." Obviously I don't really know it. Hopefully the "other end" will figure things out.

As for my "opt in" comment I meant that opting in to receiving texts vs having to opt out from everything. The assumption is that we WANT the junk and need to define it rather than assuming we DON'T want it unless we ask for it. I might allow this garbage from a previously dealt with sender, but the outright spamming of junk, be it texts or email, is what I am referring to. If I deal with AT&T for example, I can accept getting messages until I opt out, but if I never dealt with AT&T I don't want to have to opt out of their advertising.

Curious about how to prevent 1-410-100-XXX and 1-410-200-XXX SPAM text messages, I found my way to this thread. I've read about some disabling email to text, as this appears to be how this SPAM is being sent, by contacting AT&T, sighting "article 446389" and making the request. Now here are a few things to note if you are doing this:

  1. It's worth noting that text messages from these numbers can often be legit, or so I've read. I'm not sure if this is the correct term, but some have referred to it as "shortcode" used by some vendors for notifying their customers; I imagine like your dentist providing an appointment reminder via text. I'm willing to take the chance of missing the handful of those text messages, as long as it doesn't compromise two-factor authentication security texts.
  2. I was able to get through to a rep and get this done in less than 10 mins, by calling ‭(800) 331-0500‬ and following the prompts for "Tech Support." The agent I spoke to was in "Advanced Tech Support." I gave them the article number 446389 and told them I wanted email to text disabled on my account. Their system specifically can access the tools to disable and enable these features. Keep in mind, calling 611 won't necessarily get you to "Advanced Tech Support" where the option to disable this is available to the rep.

The options Advanced Tech Support can disable are:

  • Email to SMS
  • Email to MMS,
  • Text messages to (yourcellnumber)@txt.att.net & (yourcellnumber)@mms.att.net

I have disabled the first option, Email to SMS. I then kept the rep on the line and tested this by attempting to send an email text from my email application at(mycellnumber)@txt.att.net and it failed. I confirmed that (mycellnumber)@mms.att.net still worked. Then, using a a browser I have NOT been authenticated on, attempted to log in to a couple services that required two-factor authentication texts. Both authentication codes came through, so it appears my request hasn't broken 2-factor authentication. (crossing fingers)

I don't know what other popular services use email to text to notify me of updates (UPS, USPS, FedEx, Amazon, etc), but I'll keep an eye out to see if I'm missing any notifications from them. Even still, most offer push notification through their apps, email, or other ways of being updated. So, if this fixes the 1-410-100 and 200 SPAM, I'll just deal with it.

Hope this helps anyone, and I'll report back if it appears to actually work, I've broken anything critical with this "fix," and my luck reversing it if I have to. From what I've been told, simply call back to reverse it.

I don’t like receiving these text either. Doesn’t sound like there has been any success in stopping them.

Think about this.

The messages are to participate in surveys  “for a chance to win”. The companies have been Costco, Target and Best Buy. I have credit cards for all of these stores. I have my accounts registered on-line. I have also signed up for Survey Junkie. Anyone else have these similarities? Perhaps the text are marketed cookies .
