Auto update redelivers texted pics around 2am MAKE IT STOP

In the middle of the night when it does it's automatic updates, my Samsung Galaxy S21 re-sends every picture I've received via text since the previous auto update. Around 2am my phone blows up with about 20 picture messages that I've already received and duplicates them within the text message as well. So, if I receive a picture at 4p, my phone will redeliver it at 2a like it's new and the text thread will have 2 copies of each pic now. I've done a network reset and it's still happening, what now? I have done all updates and have current software. I really don't want to do a factory reset and lose everything.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention @Tiffany6997.

We know the impact this may have, and we're here to help. You can trouble shoot your device on our website. Scroll to the bottom and select sign in to start. Follow the prompts.

The last resort would be to factory reset the phone. Make sure to back up your information as this clears all personalized information off the phone. You can find information on how to back up & reset on our Device Support page. Once you select the correct make & model click on Tutorials > Backup & reset.

Let us know if this helps resolve your issue.

Well, after this post I spent some time on the phone with the Samsung help team and all they wanted to do was upgrade me to the newly released S23 instead of helping me fix my issue. I was appalled by the lack of assistance and they made it seem that's the only option to fix my phone. My S21 is just over a year old and shouldn't have such unfixable issues! Their 'help' was insulting and led me to feel they view the phones as disposable when a newer model is released.

Let's turn this around for you, Tiffany6997. We want to help you find a resolution to those pictures redelivering on your phone early in the morning.

There are a couple of other steps that can help resolve your experience:

  • Restart your device. Doing this refreshes your device's connection to the network and closes the operating system, all programs, and any pending input and out operations before the phone turns back on.
    • At AT&T Device Support, choose Troubleshooting followed by Rest Device and follow the steps presented to perform a device restart.
  • Clear app cache. Clearing the app cache simply clears temporary files that can be corrupted. It won't erase login credentials, downloaded files, or custom settings.
    • Swipe down from the Notification bar, then select the Settings icon.

    • Scroll to and select Apps > Messaging app > scroll to and select Storage > select Clear cache.

Try this and let us know how it goes. We want to make sure to get you a definite resolution to your experience.
