AT&T Secure Family

Secure Family has been working just fine on my teen's phone, but today I had turned off internet access and she was still using it.  I looked on her phone tonight and the Companion app was still there.  Cellular Data was turned off for the app, but I turned that back on.  Wifi is off for the phone, but she still has access to apps.  Any suggestions on how she is doing this?  Thanks!

Hey there karenmiller41, we want to help get the controls working on the secure family app. 

 

Please be advised that while AT&T Secure Family permits permanent and temporary data block to prevent a child from using cellular data either permanently or until the end of the billing period you will want to make sure the companion app is paired to the parent app. The companion app only works when paired with the parent's app and can only be paired to one parent app at a time.

 

How do I pair my child’s device to my AT&T Secure Family app?

AT&T Secure Family is designed to work with the AT&T Secure Family Companion app, a free app available in the App Store or on Google Play. The companion app must be on the child’s phone and paired with your phone to get all the Secure Family features. The parent and child devices don’t have to use the same operating system. For example, the parent can have an iPhone while the child can have an Android phone.

Here's how to pair devices:
  • On the parent device, go to Settings, then My family.
  • Select the child’s name and device.
  • Select Secure Family Companion and follow the instructions. Your child will get a text with a link to download the companion app.
  • Install the companion app on your child’s device and follow the pairing instructions in the companion app.
  • Wait for a message on the parent device confirming your devices are paired. When you go to Settings and select my family, then Secure Family Companion, you should see that it’s active.

Not all phone apps require internet access.  You daughter may have been using an app that is standalone w/o using internet.  Once you identify the apps or game she is using you can manually add that app to the list of blocked apps in Secure Family.
