att network via sim card will not connect to chromebook

***THIS IS NOT A WI-FI CONNECTION ISSUE***!!! I have a chromebook OS that I purchased on May 22nd. I have the $20 a month data plan on the line. When I insert my sim card into the side of the chromebook and select ATT under network, it tries to connect and but then i get the following error codes: 1. Modem not registered 2. org.chromium.flimflam.error.failure. NOBODY has been able to assist me with this issue from tech support to live in person reps. We have done every type of reset option known to man and we have replaced the sim card as well. If ANYONE can help me out I would greatly appreciate it!!!

We want to help get your Chromebook working on the AT&T network, @m4tth3w842003

Your plan may be the root cause. You'll need to make sure you're subscribed to a plan that supports your device in order to connect to the network. Not all Data-only plans support laptop devices.

Eligible devices:

  • Tablet.
  • Mobile hotspot.
  • Laptop Connect.
  • LTE camera3.

Data Amount:

  • 25GB: $50.
  • 40GB: $75.

***Price includes a $10 discount when you sign up for AutoPay and paperless billing. Overage: $10 per 2GB

AT&T PREPAID data plans at a glance.

Eligible devices:

  • Tablet.
  • Mobile hotspot.

Data amount:

  • 15GB: $35 per month (add 5GB for $10).
  • 20GB: $25 per month - when you pay $300 in advance for 12 months (add 5GB for $10).
  • 100GB: $55 per month (add 5GB for $10).

If your plan is ineligible, follow these steps to change it:

  • Go to Change my plan.
  • Select Change Plan on the My plan card.
  • Review the plans displayed. To see a side-by-side comparison of each option, select Compare plan.
  • Choose Select for the plan you want.

Let us know how this information helps. We're here to see you through this!

So far, the only fix I can come up with is to do the following::

1. turn off network data

2. remove sim card

3. insert sim card

4. turn on cellular data

5. select ATT network

it connects every time.

I'm also having the same issue with my chromebook and I've been trying to get a resolution for a month now. I have went through 3 sim cards and finally just took it up to my local AT&T store and they gave me a Warranty Claims number to call to get a new laptop and I can't get a real person on the phone. The number they gave me to call to get my laptop replaced is 1-800-801-1101. I hope you have better luck than I did.

Hello, @spickern we're happy to help with options for replacing your laptop.

If you are unable to connect your laptop to the AT&T network. Try the steps above and check that your plan allows access to data.  If your plan is ineligible, follow these steps to change it:

  • Go to Change my plan.
  • Select Change Plan on the My plan card.
  • Review the plans displayed. To see a side-by-side comparison of each option, select Compare plan.
  • Choose Select for the plan you want.

If you are on a eligible plan and cannot connect your service, we encourage you to visit our Device support page for step by step instructions on setting up device to the network. Select the Make and Model of your device then connectivity and follow the prompts.

Furthermore, you can reach our warranty department at 1-800-801-1101 and also sign in online to get device protection and warranty info for your device

Try the steps above and if you are still unable to connect we can meet in a DM and walk through additional troubleshooting. Thank you for contacting AT&T Community Forums.

I am also having this issue with my chromebook. I was told by a samsung tech support person that this is a known issue with the latest chrome OS update. He said that there may be a new update soon coming from google.

I am having the same issue. I just bought my laptop one day ago and it’s useless to me. I need to connect when I don’t have my cell or wifi to connect to. Has anyone found a solution?

I called the warranty claim number for AT&T again and finally got to speak to a real person. They contacted Samsung directly and patched me through to them. Samsung sent me a label to ship them my Chromebook so they can fix the problem. I'm hoping this will be the solution needed.

Did sending it off resolve the problem? I am having the same issue and have done what everyone else has and my only option is to send it to Samsung.

I am having the same problem. I keep getting two error messages when I try to connect via my ATT Sims card for my Samsung Galaxy Chromebook Go purchased around June 1, 2022.

I am on my 3rd SIM card to try and get this to work. I have been back to the ATT store multiple times, no luck. I called ATT tech support, no luck. After a few hours on the phone and remote work they were just as baffled. This is beyond frustrating. I live in a rural area and this is the only way I can get internet access. I can't use up all my hotspot data on my cell phone to use my Chromebook for my work.

I get this error message:

Network Connection Error

Failed to connect to network 'ATT':modem not registered

Or

Another error code that I forgot to write out.

I am in the crosh right now running code status checks to see what I can to see if I can figure out how to fix this. No luck yet.

Does anyone know how to register the modem?
