AT&T customers receive error when texting my number
Hey there,
People who have AT&T wireless cell phones are receiving the following error message when they try to send me a text message:
Error Invalid Number. Please re-send using a valid 10 digit mobile number or valid short code.
There are numerous discussions about this online, but none of the typical solutions (like resetting their contacts, imessage db, etc) seem to be applicable. For example, I've seen this with people who previously had me in their contacts list as well as completely new people with whom I've never communicated before. Additionally, nothing about my phone or phone number has changed.
After lots of searching, it sounds most similar to people that have discovered their numbers were mis-classified as land lines or somehow mis-assigned within the ATT system. My suspicion is that the right person at second or third level support could confirm and solve this in no time. However, I'm not an ATT customer, so I can't get through their support system.
Any suggestions?

Hello @brushy
Thank you for posting your concerns. I’m sorry to hear that AT&T customers are having difficulties texting your number. I’ll be happy to help you!
As you mention, since this is happening with phones that have had your contact, as well as new people, it’s doesn’t seem likely it’s individuals phones.
You are also correct about one of the reasons a person may get this message. If they are attempting to text a landline.
The other reason would be that the person texting you are not entering the full number with area code which doesn’t seem likely with multiple people getting this error.
Although we don’t necessarily have a way to troubleshoot directly with your line, if one of the people that are having issues would like, we can reach out to them, check the inter-carrier delivery of the messages and help get this resolved.
So I can further assist, please private message me and provide that person’s name, contact number and a good time to reach out to them.
Thank you!

Thank you for your offer of assistance. After some repetition and escalation, one of the network engineers at my carrier was able to open an internal ticket with ATT and get the routing fixed.
