Advanced Messaging

Updates to your Messaging Service

 

Advanced Messaging is AT&T's next generation messaging service. With it, eligible customers can send high-resolution photos and larger video files, see when messages have been delivered and read, and even when others are typing a response. All without having to download additional apps or remember more passwords.

 

Features of Advanced Messaging

  • Larger Files: Send high-quality pictures, and longer or high-resolution video file attachments up to 10MB in size. 
  • Delivery and Read Receipt: See when your messages have been delivered and read.
  • Typing Notification: Know when the person you are messaging with is typing a response.

 

What do you need for Advanced Messaging
A device that supports advanced messaging. Go here to see if you device supports Advanced Messaging.
Make sure the firmware on your device is up to date.

If you have AT&T Private Mobile Connection, when provisioned with a data rate plan that allows Tethering, it will not work with Advanced Messaging. 
Advanced Messaging is not available while roaming internationally, or when sending messages to someone on another carrier's network.


Both sender and receiver must:

  • Be postpaid AT&T wireless customers using Advanced Messaging-capable devices that are turned on and in AT&T's owned and operated domestic network coverage.
  • Have accounts set up for HD Voice, but they do not need to be in HD Voice coverage. 
  • Have Enhanced 4G LTE Services set to On (Settings > Data Usage > Mobile Data > Enhanced 4G LTE Services).
    • Remove data or messaging blocks.

Note: If a customer on a Mobile Share Advantage/Mobile Share Flex/Mobile Share Plus plan exceeds their data allowance in a billing period, data speeds for all lines on the account are reduced to a maximum of 128kbps. When this happens, AT&T Video Call and Advanced Messaging is disabled on both the wireless network and Wi-Fi for the remainder of the billing period. Customers can change their plan to obtain a new allotment of high speed data.


Enabling and Disabling Advanced Messaging

  • You can turn on/off Advanced Messaging in the Settings menu of the Messages application.
  • In the Messenger App > Select More (in the upper-right corner) > Settings > Advanced Messaging, and check/uncheck Use Advanced Messaging.

advance messaging will work with any ATT phone that supports it.  LG to Samsung does not matter or Samsung to LG either way its just ATT's junk version of RCS.

Just so everyone knows this is not UNIVERSAL RCS this is the JUNK ATT is using in its place because they are to LAZY to do what they signed on for.

where in the WORLD did you get only the v35 is supported?  I think you may want to study up on ATT's offerings...  Every samsung released in the last 3 years except for prepaid has had this on board...

AT&T may have made a [possibly exclusive] deal with LG to adopt their new Proprietary-to-LG messaging, where only the v35  has the support for this feature on AT&T at this time.  The Samsung message service may now find itself

  • not-welcome?
  • not-working?
  • fine and works great with Samsung phones with any carrier because that's the way Samsung phones are?

Clearly, it's a marketing bull spit message.

Can you offer any clarification as to whether Advanced Messaging will be a viable solution for the many customers that have been frustrated by AT&T's limit of 10 members to a group chat?  ChrisZ, an AT&T Community Specialist, posted following response in the Topic "Group Text Limit of 10 Recipients" a few days ago:

I didn't see any mention on this forum on if or how Advanced Messaging would impact group texting, but the key for a solution has to be interoperability with other carriers.  While AT&T has chosen 10 as a rather anemic threshold for the number of text group participants, Verizon, T-Mobile and other carriers allow 20 members. When these large group texts include someone using AT&T as a carrier, the AT&T customers only receive a random subset of the original group trimmed down to 10 participants and have no idea that when they respond, only a portion of the original group will see their response. It creates chaos and frustration!

Advanced Messaging is lame to say the least.  With it off, you are unable to send messages in some groups to 2 or even 3 people at once.  With it on, it separates group replies into single person-to-person messaging.  Why deal with this?  Better off dropping AT&T all together and get a carrier that does want individuals or small groups as customers, not just the large corporate accounts.

Yes I am having the same issue and mine is for group text of 4. This started 3/16 all of a sudden. I didn't request for this. Any resolution yet?

I am having the same group message problem. If its on and i send a message, it immediately turns orange and fails to send. If i turn it off, I'm blocked from even trying to type and send a message to a group

So this worked on my phone until last night with the ONE UI update. Now I cant get it to work again, Ive tried all the obvious thing, turning on/off, checking the button, i cant figure t his out

Advanced messaging does not work properly on my Samsung S9. When pictures are received, it just shows a grayed out square and says canceled. The chat bubbles also don't show up. Just read receipts. However, it won't let me send more than 2 pictures without turning it on. It has only been this way for the last couple weeks. I did have a similar problem years ago with other Samsung S's. Half of my husband's texts weren't even coming in, not just the pictures. We were told that our phones, even tho they were the same kind, couldn't communicate and we couldn't use the advanced messaging. I really thought that was corrected. Why doesn't adv messaging work?
