My little post on what happened to NHK received 2 responses from community members. Both indicating that each provider makes decisions on what to broadcast.   What I was trying to express was a disappointment this network will no longer be available to me.  I get that it is up to ATT/UVERSE to make decisions on which channels to carry.  I wasn't even concerned that perhaps the provider wasn't as transparent or timely with their announcement to suspend NHK.  I just wanted to register a concern from a customer about NHK's departure, and the seemingly proliferation of shopping opportunities (which are just not my thing)  Again I understand the need for revenue for ATT/UVERSE. It could be speculated that retail programming might be contributing, in general, to some of their programing changes.  I was gratified to see postings from others whom also morn the loss of NHK.

I may not be a good candidate for this forum as my issue was not a technical concern.  More of a statement of taste and my interests and preferences.

Clearly ATT hates it’s customers otherwise they would provide the content we want. Canceling NHK is the worst decision ever. A giant behemoth company like ATT can pretty much make anything happen so their choice to punish it’s customers by removing NHK is abhorrent. But who cares right? We are just THE CUSTOMERS. Bring back NHK!

It's apparently gone. Nobody here knows when (or if) it will be back. The very few AT&T employees that post here with their posts marked as employees choose to post on their own free time and don't know anything about it. The help agents that post here know the same as the 800-288-2020 people.

In the future, please look for existing threads before posting new ones.

It's hard to imagine that CNN or any of the other news outlets on Uverse cost less to carry than NHK, and I'm willing to bet it has a less loyal following or would be missed less that NHK is.

This was the only wholesome network on television and my place of solace. Other news stations are so corrupt and biased they are unwatchable. NHK was the only place that offered straight news without an agenda. They also had great programs that were insightful and educational. I was on the verge of cancelling my U-verse for other reasons but the removal of the best network on television solidified my decision.

Business decision. Couldn't agree on a contract so they declined to renew.

Well, the truth is that this forum is for users. Nobody from AT&T corporate will see it. A very few number of employees post here, all off the clock. The help agents that post here are technical support (the same as when you call 800-288-2020.)

You can like it or not, but that's the truth.

I am so disappointed. I used to watch NHK all the time. Literally, I'd leave the channel on in the evening. I watched the NHK international news. It provides an objective, well balanced perspective as compared to American news channels.

The May Sumo tournament starts this weekend but now it won't be televised. You can view it on NHK online, but the matches are televised a day late.

And AT&T cancelled NHK during Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage month? Well, I'm cancelling U-verse. Spectrum just got a new customer.

And how dare AT&T state that the Acceptable Solution is to watch NHK elsewhere.  The acceptable solution is for the cable provider to offer stations that customers want to watch.

@busvoice1 Did you ever consider the possibility that AT&T is a business, and as such needs to take ROI seriously for its shareholders. Could be that what NHK wanted in the way of a contract negotiation wasn't worth it to AT&T because the viewership numbers just didn't justify the cost.

-------------------INCLUDED IN EACH POST FOR CLARIFICATION______
While AT&T employees do look at forum posts from time to time, we are here to represent the forum with our experiences as customers and do not represent AT&T in any official capacity with our responses and do so on our own time unpaid and off the clock. As employees we are not rewarded nor compensated to participate in these forums This forum is comprised of regular customers to communicate with other customers to offer advice and share experiences same as any other user Although there is a small team of customer care specialists that monitor the forums the sheer volume of posts are simply too many posts for these agents to respond to each one of them.

This is an AT&T Community Forum. This is the space for customers to voice their opinions. Some customers didn't watch NHK. Obviously some customers did or we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Yet some ATT employees and corporate cheerleaders don't seem to want customers to voice their opinions.

But there is an easy solution. Drop AT&T and subscribe elsewhere.
