FireStick incompatible with AT&T TV app

I tried downloading the AT&T TV app onto my firestick. I searched for it and it did not pop up. I went to the Amazon app and tried to download it onto the stick and it gave me a message saying download unavailable: AT&T TV app is incompatible with your device. AT&T TV does not have a tech support team to assist. I’ve been told to go to the site and follow the instructions. I did that and nothing. I called amazon and tried to get help from them and I was told that AT&T lies and says that the app is compatible with the stick but it is not. Amazon said that AT&T TV uses the stick as a selling point to get people to buy into their streaming service but the app does not work with firestick. This whole process has been very irritating. Does the firestick work with the app and if so help!

Is this an older device? The older one is no longer supported.

What generation fire stick is it? Here is a list of compatible devices: https://help.directvnow.com/hc/en-us/articles/212447843. It states that it has to be a 2nd generation Fire Stick (or newer I would guess if a newer one has been released).

I guess I have the 1st generation firestick. This should be told to the customer upon selling directv now streaming. It’s extremely frustrating that I spent the last hour trying to get this to work and even had to reach out to amazon. I understand that you all provide this information online but when I google searched (because that’s what most people do now) that was not something that came up. I had no idea that I needed 2nd generation or newer. I also called directv now and was just told to visit the site. I think directv now should have a service that streaming customers can contact. Also, why is amazon saying it’s not compatible?

Well, we all don't provide any information online because we all are just customers like you. I will admit upon googling, and even going to their homepage and clicking "ways to watch" it doesn't specifically say 2nd generation except on the official devices page, which does take some hunting down. I don't know who you called for DirecTV NOW as DirecTV NOW has no phone support. There is literally no phone number for DirecTV NOW. They only offer chat support. And Amazon told you it's not compatible because it's not, isn't that what we just established? That your 1st generation fire stick is in fact not compatible. It definitely works with the 2nd generation fire stick as I have one and it works fine (although I barely use it).

That is a brand new disclaimer - I believe it updated yesterday.  The previous one didn't specify 2nd generation Fire Stick.  They also updated a few other things: it now calls for 2nd generation for Fire TV, updated the requirement on iOS version from 9+ to 10+, Chrome version from 50+ to 59+, and Safari version from 8+ to 10+.  It is likely that those really applied for a while and they just got around to updating the article.  And yes, I would assume any newer versions than they list would also apply (they still specify ATV gen 4, though we know the ATV 4K - gen 5 - works).  (On Chrome, that would apply to to the Stable branch, but not necessarily to Beta, let alone Dev or Canary.)  I think it is not unreasonable that as time passes and hardware requirements increase that some older models previously supported get dropped - but it would seem that they should make some noise about it, especially to warn existing users.

And they do have someone you can contact (usually 24/7) - it's just (as noted) by online chat rather than by phone.

I have a 2nd generation firestick (the very one the help site above links to) and it still says incompatible on Amazon. Thoughts?

Make sure you have the latest update. Go to settings/device/about/check for system update. It might say install on the right side of the screen and if it does then click it and try searching for the app again once the update is complete.

It must be a relatively new update to the DTVN app for Firestick that made it incompatible.  I used a gen 1 Firestick with DTVN for quite a while before upgrading to a gen 2 (I think it was a Prime Day sale).,  The gen 2 is a huge improvement in all respects - definitely worth the upgrade.

I have a fire stick  gen 2 as well. Searched on device, nothing. Went to amazon and selected download to cloud for all devices. Went back to device did an update and sync. Still nothing. When I type in Directv Now it has the selection as far as the words in the search but the only app that pops up is NFL. Lol what? It does work on my Fire Tv though

So this is not an accurate reason from DirecTV.

I say that because I had the app on my 1st gen fire stick and it worked fine. But then I deregistered the fire stick and registered it again under my wife's name and was no longer able to find and download the app. We have another 1st gen fire stick and while the one under my wife's account could no longer find the app, the other was streaming the app just fine. So this is not really a technical "we can't support the app on the device", it's they don't want to support it....and the reason is pretty simple:
They have an updated app that allows for dvr and rather than having 2 versions of the app (non-dvr on 1st gen fire and dvr on 2nd gen), they decided to put all their eggs into the new one. The drawback is that I really haven't been happy with their service the last few months and if I need to shell out money to upgrade hardware then it's not worth it. They should of thought about maybe offering replacements at 50% off or a month of free service, but they only gave a small discount if you upgraded the device. Lets see how their membership base reacts, i'm most likely going to drop them as my live content streaming provider. Ironically PS Vue works on 1st gen.

***note***
The work around for not having the app available on 1st gen is to download the individual channel apps and login to each indicating DirecTV Now as your cable provider. It's annoying and tedious but if really don't want to upgrade then it's a solution

Direct TV Now-Is more concerned about getting customers on board. I signed up based on free Apple TV. I have 4 other TV's. All of a sudden days ago pop up came up "not compatible". I was furious-Only one TV now will work. All others 1St Generation. I cut cable finally.

Two Issues that makes me mad.

the 2nd issue. Nobody Notified Me-Knew nothing of this and now until I buy If I buy 4 other streaming devices!. World Cup Is Sunday and My kids can only watch in one room. Chatted, which I Dislike< with customer service and told her why was I not told. She said an email was sent. NO WAY did I get an email. I get bombarded with ads-calls and you would hope they would have the decency of informing the customers they hounded. She did her dog and pony show. Also mentioned, other issue, why would I spend over $300 buying 4 other devices. If that is the story I will go back to cable. At least I can talk to people. Also other Streaming companies out there. If I knew this when doing comparisons. I would have gone to another company. AT&T knew this-shame on you.

Now I understand why they had for month free Apple TV, Roku, Fire Stick. Hook you in and take the percentages that you will stay and pay.

Shame On You

@123popeye123 I don’t know if you still have time but DirecTV now was issuing rebates for those with first gen fire tv sticks to get a new fire stick free or at a discounted price. If you’re still interested in staying with DirecTV now chat with a rep and see if it’s still available.

I'm pretty sure my Roku stick thingy is latest model since it's less than 6 months old but I can't find DirecTV Now either after AT&T assured me Roku is supported

Not to mention stating that att tech support could help me set it up

Top that with no Live Chat button on the page and it's starting to seem like a scam to me!!!

Chat is available. Select "Contact Us" at the bottom of this page - then select "DirecTV NOW" - select "Chat" in middle of screen or a bubble may appear at the bottom of page on the right side.
