VOIP phone line gets loud Buzz

Who has their ATT VOIP home line Buzzzing loudly. Ours does it at least 2 times daily. We have an optical line interface. ATT techs have been out here twice testing and replaced our router gateway. We reboot the Router gateway and it will happen again withing the hour, sometimes. We have even come off hook with POT and it was BUZZING its little heart for all it was worth. Rebooting will clear the ocurance but will do it again without notice of any other symptom. Has anyone had them solve this symptom or have a suggestion, (not to include changing carriers)?

We never had this with U-Verse but is chronic with Optical line servise.

First thing I'd try is plug a corded phone into the phone port and make that the only thing that's plugged into the port. You really don't say how you're using this so I'm going to assume you're using a cordless phone system, if so make sure the base unit is not close to anything that could induce noise into it, same with the modem. One other thing to check is when this happens is the modem behaving normally, correct lights and not indicating any errors? Most noise like this is induced so you might have to do some testing to figure out where it's coming from.

i am alergic to radios. Having done a lot of radio tower wotk, my thyroid is burned out. So, i stay with corded phone only. When it happens, it happens suddenly and quits suddenly. POT means plain old telephone in my first statement. Usually, when it starts, we just wait a minute and it goes away. i can hang up and call back to stop the symptom as well.
I have not examined the gateway alarm indications while it is buzzing. Should i be able to see an alarm or error history log by addressing the gateway router?

Hey @oldew,

We'd lied to help with the buzzing sound on your VoIP. Buzzing sound usually indicates interference. Can you check the wires connected into your from your gateway to your phone are not in contact with any metal (other than the connection to terminals)?

Let us know if this helps

Please See above aditional description of symptom.
We have a new cell pone tower only a quarter mile away.
I will be making additional tests, per your request.
When it starts, it is not a little hum, nor acompanied by other noises. It is very loud and at a constant overwhelmingly great level .

@oldew If you want your posts in order you can REPLY to the last post instead of COMMENTing on the original post. Just FYI. Looks like you may be on to something with the denial of service errors.

Looking at the gateway error log, there is a frequent entry that says, DoS Attack. Come to find out this is a growing and complicated phenomenon. DoS means, Denial of Service and is a form of malicious jamming on the network. i am suspicious that this is the cause of the problem we are hearing through our VOIP telephone line. These peculiar errors logs coincide with the overwhealminly loud BUZZZZ that lasts for a minute or so and then goes away for a while.
So far, the best way to deal with them in the moment, is to use the phone FLASH or switch hook feature, which saves the listening party's having to listen to it.

Looking at the gateway log today there were no DoS Attack entrys, no not even one. And also not a single BUZZZ out occurance either. Will watch this in the days ahead and report if the BUZZZ out, takes over the VOIP phone line again.
